LAKE SEMINOLE IS DOWN ONE FOOT, CLEAR & 72 DEGREES
Bass fishing is fair on worms and jigs on the trees and docks.
In the lower lakes creeks flip docks with a Texas rigged Culprit
black shad worm. Use larger worms in dark colors and add the
Real Craw scent. Cast to the same spot with several casts. Use a
Zoom red shad u tail worm on a Texas rig and work the edges of
the grass beds. Also a Leverage gold buzz bait will work all
day. Also the 7A Bomber in crawfish or fire tiger colors right
on the docks. Up the rivers flip a large worm or spinner bait
around the banks and drop them into the cuts under the big trees
right on the bank.
Crappie fishing is fair as they are still shallow in the in the
creeks. There are schools tight on brush and they are biting
using live minnows. The fish are the next to the creek channels
and use live bait.

Report Updated
May 3, 2008
LAKE SINCLAIR IS DOWN 2.2 FEET, 71
DEGREES, STAINED TO CLEAR
Bass fishing is fair and the shad spawn is in full swing
on most of the lake, and bass are feeding on them in
some areas. Bait choices have been more varied this year
because the lake is more clear than normal for this time
period. During most years a small spinner bait is hard
to beat. A ¼ ounce white spinner bait has produced
limited success this year, along with small shallow
crank baits, Tiny Torpedo, Chug Bug, Fluke, and original
Rapala. There’s been some top water success not related
to the shad spawn. Docks, blow downs, and points are
producing bites from several different top water baits.
A Trick worm rigged weightless with a swivel 8”-10”
above the worm has also produced. If the bass are real
active, try using a pop, pop, pop, and pause retrieve.
By mid morning, fishing gets tough. This is when
Carolina rigs and Texas rigs will help yield another few
bites. Primary and secondary points and flats are
holding post spawn fish that will hit the Carolina rig.
Try a Zoom Finesse or Trick worm on a 2-foot leader with
a half ounce weight. Docks and boat houses are probably
holding more fish than any other cover. Deeper docks
have gotten better than they were for most of the
spring. Deep docks with brush are even better. A Trick
worm with a small weight can easily be skipped
underneath using spinning tackle. Senko’s, Dead
Ringer’s, and other worms can be cast, flipped, or
pitched under the dock or to each post. Carolina rigs
can be retrieved along the sides and front of docks. A
very small percentage of bass are still bedding; most
have finished. But the angler that likes to sight fish
could still find a few bedding bass.
Line sides are scattered and hard to pattern. Some are
feeding each morning on the spawning shad. Some hybrids
are feeding around the bridge at Crooked Creek. A few
can be caught during early morning with one of the
artificial baits used for bass fishing. Also try live
shad or shiners about 6’ below a float and cast the rig
about 20-30 feet from the rip rap. Hybrids and whites
are feeding at night around dock lights, mostly from the
river junction up both rivers. Small crank baits, Sassy
Shads, and crappie jigs are the primary choices.
Crappie are still being caught, but the numbers and size
have fallen off for most anglers. A few can still be
caught by trolling minnows, Hal Flies, and Triple
Ripples. Brush that is 8 to 15 feet deep near a ditch or
deeper water are holding crappie. The best approach is
to anchor and wait for them to take a minnow. Dock
shooters are enjoying success on the deeper docks using
1/24 Hal Flies and similar jigs. Crappie are also
feeding at night around dock lights. Hal Flies are all
that’s needed to catch them.

Lake Oconee, Georgia's first experience with a slot size limit for largemouth bass
Report Updated May 3, 2008
LAKE OCONEE IS FULL, 73 DEGREES BY AL BASSETT, 706 473 7758
Lake Oconee is at full pool with a water temperature 68 to 74 degrees.
Most of the lake has a stain to it. Richland Creek, Sugar Creek, and
Lick Creek have some clear water. Bass fishing is fair. The shad spawn
is in full swing. Look for the shad on the hard surface around the lake
first thing in the day. Look for feeding bass on the shad. Cast parallel
to the sea wall where you have found the shad. This will keep your bait
where the fish are longer. Fishing a small crank bait like a ¼ ounce
Rat-L-Trap or a number 5 Shad-Rap would be a good choice. Any type of
top water bait will also work. You may have to check a number of places
to find the feeling fish. If number of fish is what you are looking for
fishing a Texas rig worm casting right on the sea wall will also bring
you number of fish. Cast your bait onto the shore and pull the bait off
into the water. These fish are in less than two foot of water. Using a
good scent like the J J Magic will help you catch a few more fish as
they will hold onto the bait just a little longer. Again, you need to
cast right next to the sea wall as these fish are very shallow. If
larger fish are what you are looking for use a spinnerbait or a
Rat-L-Trap and work the main pocket around the lake. Works the shoreline
half way back into the pocket them out the other side. Fishing has pick
up a little and will only get better over the next couple of weeks.
Crappie fishing is fair and night fishing is starting to get good.
Fishing with light off the side of boat is working well in the timber or
under the bridges. During the day most of these fish are starting to
move back into deeper water. Fishing brush in 10 to 15 foot of water is
your best bait. Using live minnows on light line with a number 6 hook is
your best bet. Be a line watch as some of these bits are very light.

Report Updated May 3, 2008
JACKSON LAKE IS DOWN 2.3 FOOT, CLEAR AND 75 BY ED CAVENDER.
Bass fishing is good on Jackson Lake. Much of the lake is fairly
clear and top water tactics are fishing well. Many bass are holding
in 1 to 4 feet of water and can be found on the main lake and in the
pockets. Some fish can be found a little deeper, out to about 7 or 8
feet. Spinner baits, jigs, hard baits, and plastics can all fish
well. Spinner baits do well when fished through shallow wood cover
and fish particularly well with some cloud cover or shade. They will
begin to do well on the seawalls with the shad spawn. Senko
continues to be a good bait when the sun is shining. Use 5" baits on
a 4/0 offset shank hook or a wacky rig. Fish it just about anywhere,
but look for docks and shallow wood cover with shade. The Senko
needs to fall on totally slack line to reach its potential. A calm
day or sheltered pocket is best, because, the wind can throw this
bite off by putting tension on the line. This isn't a bait where you
are going to feel the bite. Watch the floating coils of line closest
to the bait. Right now, the bite will come fairly quick. After a
5-1000 count, check the bait if you haven't visually detected the
strike. Top water action is hard to beat right now. The Pop R bite
is hot and moving to the seawalls. Cast and fish as close to the
wall and banks as possible. I still haven't picked up a buzz bait,
but it may be preferred in windy conditions. Fall back on shaky
heads and split shot rigs for bites under slow fishing conditions.
Crappie fishing is good and anglers are catching fish trolling and
there are some fish back in the pockets on wood and some anglers are
shooting docks.

LAKE RUSSELL IS DOWN 2.2 FEET, 69 DEGREES
Bass fishing is good. The weather has been great and the fishing is
hot. Shallow running Shad Raps in the Perch and Shad colors are
catching good bass. The early morning and late evening bite seems to
be the best right now. Small cuts and coves seem to be the favorite
places to fish. Top water Chug Bugs and Skitter Pops are working in
the creeks early in the morning. The water is warm and this is
driving the bream and perch into the shallows. The shad are now
moving back into the shallow water and will be spawning soon. Follow
any missed strikes with a spinnerbait. On the bright sunny days
after the sun comes up over the tree tops, anglers are finding the
bass holding tight to cover and hard to catch. This is the time to
use those plastics and jigs. Texas Rigged Lizards near wood piles
seem to be working the best.
Crappie fishing is still good. Live minnows and Blue Fox Vibrax
spinners are working throughout the day. Live minnows seem to be the
bait of choice during the late evening and night time hours. The
FREE map card deal is still on with any Lowrance 5 inch sonar/GPS or
Lowrance GPS unit.

CLARK HILL IS DOWN 9 FEET & 70 DEGREES BY RAPALA PRO
STAFFER TIM WHITE
Bass fishing is great right now and the water temperatures will vary
depending on where you put in. Top water action is hot right now.
Skitter Pops and Chug Bugs are working as it still takes at least twenty
pounds of Bass to win the weekend tournaments. Mop Head Jigs are also
catching big bass according to some local anglers. Tom H. reported a
good top water bite all day long last weekend which is normally a bit
unusual. The Number Eight X-Raps in the Mossy Back color is also a good
follow up bait to use, especially when the top water action cools off.
As the Bass come off the beds, back off a little too at least ten feet
of water before making your cast. Rain is expected once again for this
weekend, so stay alert while fishing.

LAKE WEISS IS AT .33 FEET BELOW FULL POOL STAINED AND 69 DEGREES
Now available for sale 50 of my proven GPS waypoints for off shore
structure for Bass and Crappie fishing on Weiss Lake, Alabama. Contact
Ken Sturdivant at info@havefunfishing.com
Bass fishing is good the fish are shallow and in various stages of
spawning, A Zoom lizard in June bug or black is always a great bait for
bass during the spawn. Most of the Bass have moved into 2-5 feet of
water in the spawning bays of the upper and lower lake, look for shaded
banks with hard bottoms that have at least 1 1/2 feet of water right at
the bank, shaded seawalls in the spawning bays are always a great place
to find these cruising and bedding fish.
Striper fishing is poor and the Stripers have moved up the rivers to
Rome, Georgia. and beyond. Look for them to return down the rivers to
the main lake in mid to late may. Stripers can still be caught in the
Etowah River above Rome, Georgia, although access is hard with no boat
ramps and all the land on the river is private. Top water lures like the
Red Fin is a great bait when they are in the rivers spawning, live shad
free lined is always good.
Catfish are biting all over the lake. Target the marinas where all the
crappie are being cleaned as the discarded waste draws in the big Blues
and Flatheads. The docks at JR's Marina and Bay Springs Marina are
producing some 20-50 pound Blues and a few Flatheads on Crappie heads
most every night. Make sure to use a good quality fishing line, I
suggest a minimum of 25 pound test line.
Crappie fishing is fair and fair numbers of fish are being caught spider
trolling Jiffy Jigs in 1/24 ounce in colors JJ12, JJ13, JJ17, JJ18 JJ20,
JJ25, JJ26 on 6 pound test line in 3 to 4 feet of water in the bays of
the upper lake. A lot of fish are being caught shooting docks with a
1/24 ounce Jiffy Jig, look for older, bigger docks that make a lot of
shade and the ones that have brush under and around them are always
good.

LAKE GEORGE IS FULL, 72 DEGREES & CLEAR
Bass are fair and are up on top water later in the day. The Lunker Lure
all white buzz bait or Bang A Lures in silver and black back on banks
and wood has been good. Large Senko’s in pearl and watermelon are good
baits for grass lies with no split shot. Cast to the shallow banks with
a Rattlin’ Rouge in the shad or bream color. Spinner baits with willow
leaf blades in silver and gold’s on the banks can draw strikes. Worms on
a Texas or a short Carolina rig are fair in greens or smoke colors are
fair, but fish slowly in and around brush. The down lake fish are biting
blue back Shad Raps crank baits on the points and humps. Try the white
skirts and silver blades on a Strike King 3/8th ounce spinner baits up
the rivers in coves and hit wood on the banks.
Crappie fishing is fair but stay in clear water later each day and the
trees lines are best at 7 feet. Use live minnows and fish in the creeks
on the ledges.
