LAKE SEMINOLE IS DOWN .6 FEET, 53 DEGREES, MUDDY AND FAST LAKE WIDE BY MATT BATY

Bass fishing is barely are fair but there are fish and small ones shallow all over the lake. Stay in the creeks as there are already reports of bass moving to shallows. The Texas rig or the Carolina rig with u tail worms worm’s in red shad or purple and use the brass and glass weight for extra sound will work later in the day. Work all slow lures patiently all the way back to the boat on the points and ledges. Up river in the creeks mouths slow roll a larger 1/2 ounce spinner bait with gold and silver willow leaf blades. Later each day the fish are moving to river points. Run a gold Rapala by any grass and let the bait sit dead still.

Report Updated February 5, 2010

LAKE SINCLAIR IS FULL, 45 DEGREES, STAINED BY ROGER MCKEE, 706 342 8555

Largemouth bass fishing continues to be a challenge for most anglers. Lake Sinclair has a good stain over most of the lake with surface temperatures ranging from 48 to 52 degrees. The Bassmaster Weekend Series tournament out of Little River Marina last weekend was won with "one" fish that weighed 7 1/2 pounds. Yes, only one fish won the tournament, so saying it's tough might be a little too positive. This weekend's forecast calls for heavy rain and highs in the low forties, so don't look for much to change. Your best bets will be fishing a crank bait in three to seven feet of water around docks and on points. Use a #5 or #7 Rapala Shad Rap in gold and black or a chartreuse and pearl. Another good choice would be a Suddeth Little Earl or a Bomber Flat A in fire tiger. Vary the retrieve from slow to slower and make sure to stay in contact with the bottom. A few fish are being caught on the rip-rap at various bridges around the lake by using a 1/8 ounce jig head with a Zoom trick worm in a black color pattern with a small glass rattle inserted in the worm. Fish the worm very slow with several long pauses. Even though fishing is tough, your chances of catching a really big fish is actually better than average.

Lake Oconee, Georgia's first experience with a slot size limit for largemouth bass

Report Updated February 5, 2010

LAKE OCONEE IS 6 INCHES BELOW FULL POOL, 48 DEGREES, STAINED TO MUDDY

Bass fishing is poor. No one is catching fish. The guides and pro's are not getting bites. The birds are everywhere feeding on dying shad. The shad are so thick that my Lowrance thinks it's the bottom of the lake. The bass right under them in great numbers. They are suspended and very difficult to catch and you have to hit them right on the head. The shad kill has subsided somewhat with the warmer water. Try a 3/4 ounce jigging spoon first. The shad are in about 20 feet of water, and the bass are just below at the 25 foot level. If you can catch them schooling, throw a 1/2 ounce blue and chrome Rat L Trap or a Little George into the fray. Fish the main lake points with either a Carolina rig or a Texas rig. Try the Zoom Trick Worm in the red bug color or a Zoom Centipede in watermelon green. Good fishing is just around the corner. The cold weather has finally eased and the water temperatures have come up a bit to 48 degrees. It won't be long before until we see the fifties and hopefully the fish will turn on. The lake is still very muddy. It's going to take some time for it to clear up and more rain is predicted.

Report Updated February 5, 2010

JACKSON LAKE IS DOWN 1.25 FOOT, STAINED, AND 49 DEGREES, BY ED CAVENDER.

Bass fishing is slow can bite at times and it can be a good bite. The lake is consistently stained throughout and of course the water is cold. That combo alone makes fishing tough but bass are shallow and there is a lot of potential for lake surface warming on sunny days. The best fishing conditions will be late on a sunny afternoon. Crankbaits will be good tools for covering shallow water in front of South to West facing rocky banks with proximity to deep water. Flat sided baits like a Little John can be good choices but so can Bomber and other round baits. If they are on the crankbaits a No 7 Shad Rap may be hard to beat. The water color is right for fire tiger colored baits.

Crappie fishing is slow. So if it’s crappie you are looking for, the cold snap has slowed the crappie bite down to a crawl at best. Wait a week or so until the sunnier warmer days return.

Report Updated February 5, 2010

LAKE RUSSELL IS DOWN 3.4 FEET, 45 DEGREES AND STAINED

Bass fishing is slow. The temperature of the water remains steady in the 42-45 degree range but the sun that has been shinning will warm the water a degree or two during the day. This warming of the surface will trigger the bass, especially the spots to move in search of food. Now is a good time to practice up on some deep water cranking. Some of the larger spots and largemouth can be caught cranking the ledges with the crank baits. A lot of anglers are reporting great success while using these new deep diving crank baits. Up in the rivers where the water is stained use the richer colors like fire tiger or the black and silver colors. Out on the main lake, go to the more natural shad and crawfish colors and work the channel ledges near the points and rocky banks. Waiting for the sun to come up will be a plus for cranking rip rap or any long stretch of larger rock. Early in the morning or after mid day, the Carolina rig is still a good bet. The red shad Culprit worm is working on bass holding to cover in the deeper water. Try the smaller sizes like the 4.5 or 5.0. A 24 to 30 leader is all that is needed to complete this set up. Use a Tru-Tungsten dual sinker to get more noise on the bottom. The spoons will still get you a few bites while vertical jigging brush piles. Work all the baits as slow as possible for best results.

CLARKS HILL IS DOWN 2.3 FEET, 44 DEGREES AND STAINED

Bass fishing is slow. Anglers will be are watching the lake level rise and waiting for the big bass to get active again. Some are being caught while Carolina rigging worms and some anglers are catching a few fish pig n jig. To find out if they are moving up and actively feeding, go to the number one winter search bait. This could be no other than the jerk bait. The larger jerk bait in green ad gold or blue and silver combinations around points is a good standby. Make long casts being and cover the entire point and work the bait with a slow to medium retrieve. Try different sizes but the larger sizes may work better.

LAKE WEISS IS DOWN 2.18 FEET, VERY STAINED AND 44 DEGREES BY MARK COLLINS GUIDE SERVICE

Now available for sale 50 of my proven GPS waypoints for off shore structure for bass and crappie fishing on Weiss Lake. For more info contact Ken Sturdivant at ken@havefunfishing.com

Bass fishing is fair and a few largemouth are starting to be caught on secondary points on Rat L Traps and shallow running crank baits. Our spots are still very active. The upper part of Little River and the Chattooga River is loaded with spots and they will stay there thru the winter, any cover on deeper rocky banks is sure to be holding some Spots. They can be caught on a Texas rigged 4 inch Zoom dead ringer or a 5 inch Senko worm in pumpkinseed or watermelon seed or June bug colors and a drop shot rig is also catching a lot of spotted bass.

Striper fishing is fair and they have started their migration up the Chattooga River and the Coosa River, cut shad on the bottom on a Carolina rig is a great way to catch these pre spawn fish.

Crappie fishing is Fair and some good stringers of fish are starting to be caught trolling. Little Spring Creek is producing some good trolling action on 1/24th ounce Jiffy Jigs in colors JJ11, JJ12, JJ13, JJ15, JJ17, JJ24, Church House Cove is also producing some crappie trolling these same jig colors in a 1/16 ounce. The Riverside area is also producing some fish trolling.

Jiffy Jigs Largest Crappie contest! Come fish with me and have a chance to win a 50.00 dollar prize sponsored by JIFFY JIGS. The largest Crappie caught in my boat each month in February and March will win the prize.

Report Updated February 5, 2010

LAKE GEORGE/EUFAULA IS 2 FEET OVER FULL, 48 DEGREES & MUDDY

Bass fishing is barely fair. The cold weather continues to push the water temperatures down and the fish even deeper. Fish are hovering together tight in about 25 feet of water. Try the Carolina rig to get bites but the fish are small keepers. You will find most of the fish in the channel bends off ledges with fast drops, jigging spoons would have probably worked better, but the wind may make this tough also. Try a small 4" tube bait in green pumpkin and work the ledge near Cowikee Creek and let the wind drift the boat over the old brush or timber. Stop and slowly drag the Carolina rig through it. The bites may be sluggish since it so cold. Try a run up the river and try some flipping the blow downs. It may be hard to fish slowly with the wind but working plastics on the deeper ledge drops works, it's just a slow go.
