Mid January fronts have brought cool dates, rainy days and sunny days. The cooler temperatures have dropped water temperatures driving migratory fish into local water ways.Channels and bays are teaming with schooling fish. Pompano a fan favorite are striking DOA curl tail jigs worked on the bottom. Low tide has the fish balled up around humps and structure on bottom. Bluefish and jacks are also schoolers and will strike DOA curl tails and Rapala skitter walks worked on the surface. Many other species are in the mix while working jigs on the bottom, ladyfish, drum, snapper, croakers and mackerel.Back country fishing, snook are active near mangrove shorelines. Rapala x raps great bait to entice snook to strike. The back country offers smaller fish 15 to 28 inches, along with all four species of snook to target. Tarpon are also roaming these waters as well.
