Fishing has really picked up the last week, with more fish and bait moving into the grass .Still fishing the same patterns, I have done well with top water in the grass.
I have been fishing from one to four feet deep hydrilla beds fishing a buzz baits, Also another lure that I have caught some big fish on is spooks and Gun Fish, if its calm I will use the sppok and if its windy I will go to the gun fish. I have been fishing it around the patches of hydrilla and over the submerged hydrill. I am fishing the Spook and Gun Fish on 20lb Seaguar mono or braid with a Lews 6’6” medium action rod. I like the 6’6”Lews rod because it allows me to have better walking action than a 7’ rod. This is very important in getting the best action out of my gun fish! The buzz baits im fishing on a 7’ lews medium action with 20 seaguar or braid.
The color choice of baits, have been a white buzzbait and a Black Buzzbait.
The Spook and Gunfish 115 I’m fishing a custom Blue Glimmer painted by Bag5 baits and a ghost minnow.
Another pattern is fishing the deeper hydrill with the Gun fish early then flipping ZOOM tubes and Z hogs; I have been fishing the main lake grass and fishing the inside edge of the grass on the flats side with this pattern.
I am flipping Seaguar braid and using Green pumpkin blue ZOOM tubes and a Green pumpkin Z hog dipping the tips of it with chartreuse dye.
If your fishing north of Danville (ferry Crossing) there’s not as much hydrilla, so you will want to look for submerged brush piles or any kind of wood, fish the Gun fish over it or cast a Lucky Craft 1.5 in Ghost shad, gun metal and a custom painted Blue Glimmer by Bag5 baits has been the key colors for me.
Fish the LC 1.5 on a 7ft med action Lews rod with 15lb Seaguar AbrazX. On some of this wood I am catching three or more fish off the same piece of cover, fish all around the wood from different angles, cranking with a slower speed has been best for me. I am also fishing docks with the LC 1.5 and the back of bays, the fish are doing a lot of things right now, the shad are migrating that’s why it’s been tough for some guys but focus on trying to find areas with cover, this will allow the fish a target to wait for the bait, otherwise the bass are just following the shad and those fish are very difficult to catch. It won’t be long till most of our shad are in the shallow grass and in the back of the creeks and bays. Our fantastic fall fishing will be here, it’s just around the corner!
Ledge Fishing on the water class
The fish are on the ledges good and it’s a good time to learn and get confidence by catching fish on the ledges
If you’re new to Kentucky Lake or just haven’t been able to figure out how to fish the hundreds of miles of ledges that it has to offer. Then this class is for you. Fishing the ledges is something a lot of anglers struggle with. Understanding what ledges hold fish, when they hold fish and why they hold fish is something I can teach you. I will help you eliminate 90% of the lake in a short time. See what type of areas hold fish and how to find the bait.
Get on schools of fish and get them fired up! This is some of my favorite techniques on this amazing lake
