WEST POINT LAKE IS FULL, STAINED & 74 DEGREES
Bass fishing is fair. Start out with a ½ ounce buzz bait in the shad color and fish 3 to 5 feet of water around grass in the backs of pockets in Yellow Jacket and up the river. Is the fish blow up on the buzz bait and miss it, follow it up with a Netbait green pumpkin finesse worm. Use a 1/8 ounce weight in the same green pumpkin color. As the day warms up use the ½ ounce Picasso football head jig in the bream color. Fish this jig in the deep pockets and points throughout the coves up the river and around the Indian Mound. Down lake the pattern is similar but in deeper water. Throw a finesse worm around blow downs and brush piles in 8 to 12 feet of water. Water down lake is clear so make sure to use a fluorocarbon line. Spinnerbaits are working well right now also and a tandem blade combination seems to out produce the rest. Use a ½ ounce Strike King blade in the new sexy shad color. Work this bait at fast speeds for best result and twitch you rod every couple seconds to trigger strong hits.
Hybrid and striper fishing has picked up again and fish are biting lake wide. Down lake fish are being caught on threadfin shad down lined in 16 to 10 feet of water around tree tops and humps around the Indian creek area. Also, the road beds has started hold good sized fish on the drop offs. Another great way to have a fun fishing trips is the top water bite. The early morning and late evening bite is good. Good baits to use are Pop R's, jerk baits, or flukes fished on a jig head. Great areas to catch these schooling fish is by the pumping stations upriver down to the railroad trestle.
Crappie fishing is great lake wide. Fish have started to come back to the shallows and can be caught around brush piles in 7 to 10 feet of water. Jiffy Jigs and live minnows have been the "go to" baits to use. Good colors to use right now are Chart/Chart, Blue/White, and White/White. Good creeks to fish are Wilson Creek, Rainbow Creek and the back of Wedhakee Creek. Also Night fishing has been great by all the bridges and boat ramps.
