LAKE ALLATOONA IS DOWN 16.9 FEET, CLEAR & 54 DEGREES This Lake Allatoona guides report is from Matt Driver 404 456 6094 www.proanglerradio.com Bass fishing is great but the moon has slowed the afternoon bite over the past few days. We have been catching good size, for Allatoona, fish in the 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 pound range. The water temperatures are in the 50 to 52 degree range and the float n fly bite is on. The red rooster custom big eye fly has been doing the trick. Use this rig with a 10 foot leader and Sunline Sniper 7 pound fluorocarbon leader. The sharp drop bluff walls are the key. The lake is a little stained and flies with blue and chartreuse are best. The bites have been coming within the first 20 feet of shore. The jerk bait bite in the Allatoona creek arm of the lake is decent because the water is clear in those areas. Don't fish alone with these cold temps. Hypothermia is a killer. Line side fishing is fair. The rain we have had the last two weeks has stained the lake from Little River to the dam. The north end of the lake is stain to muddy, but is still holding a ton of fish and most are white bass and small hybrids. These fish will not hit live bait. But, they will take a spoon as fast as you drop it down to them. Look for these fish north of Galt’s Ferry. Mid lake is where you want to be if you are looking for stripers. Bartow Carver to the dam is the place to be for stripers and bigger schools of hybrids. These fish are not eating live bait either. We have had our best luck mid lake pulling umbrella rigs the last few times out. These fish have moved out of the river channel and up on the edge of it. Look for these fish to be in water 20 to 40 deep. We look for the live bait bite to start any day. Going to the lake without live bait would be a big mistake. This time of the year you need to be open minded on your techniques. Top water, trolling, spooning and live bait can all work this time of year. But, what worked yesterday, might not work tomorrow. Take the kitchen sink with you when heading out to the pond this time of year. We think striper fishing is only a few days away from busting wide open. Also, the top water bite is just around the corner.
