  • Cumberland River Report-Increased Stockings

Listen here or read below! Chuck Strange audio report 1-16-14 Fishin.mp3

The river's up above the ramp, as it has been for all of November and December. As of Jan 11 the lake levels is about 690, that's winter pool for Lake Cumberland and it should slow the generation down depending on the rain fall we have coming up...who knows about that?!

With the river this high for that long, white bass should be real good this spring, walleye within the next month. This should be the best the river's been in years because they are done working on the dam and they also stocked 20,000 sterile walleye which grow about 3x as fast as normal stockers.

They are also stocking the normal 8-10" stockers. They put 20,000 of the bigger fish in. We got 10,000 from Virginia and 10,000 of our own of those sterile trout.

The river should get better from here on. They were catching 16-19" rainbows back in November probably due to the all the big stockers they were putting in.

This should be a real good year as the are done working on the **** and the river is getting back to a normal rise and fall. In 2012 we had 5 stripers over 50lbs come out and in 2013 I know of 3 over 50lbs. I'd say we are going to break more records this year.

A couple of friends of mine went out yesterday and caught 25 sucker fish back up in the creeks where the waters are backed up. That's where the white bass are going to be in the next month or so.

If anyone wants to call me for daily river levels, I go by every day , my number is 270-864-2248. Call me anytime, I'm here 7 days a week!
