LAKE OCONEE IS FULL, 48 DEGREES

Bass fishing is slow. If we have a couple of warm days in a row fish any place you can find some rocks. During the heat of the day the rocks will warm up a degree or two. A few fish will move into this area but you must fish with small baits and light line. Looking for schools of baitfish with fish under them is another way to try to catch a few fish. When you find them use a Flex-It-Spoon on 10 pound test line with a medium action rod. Move your rod tip up 4 to 6 inches and let the bait fall back down. Be a line watcher, as your bites will come while the bait falls. Using a drop-shot rig or a light jig head with finesse or trick worm fishing under the schools of bait fish could also bring you a few bites. Some of these fish could be as deep as 30 to 40 foot deep. Spend the time looking on your Lowrance depth finder for the school of bait fish before you start fishing. There has been some good fish caught on the rip rap at the Sugar Creek Bridge. This is an area that if you are there at the right time you should be able to some good fish. Something during the day these fish will come up on the rocks and feed. Small crank bait or a pig and jig is the bait to use in this area.

Crappie fishing is fair. There are a few good fish being caught up the Apalachee River above Swords boat ramp and at the mouth of Sugar Creek. Trolling a Jiffy Jig tipped with a minnow is working best. There also are a good number of fish be caught under the bridge at Sugar Creek. Best bait has been small bright Hal Flies. Watch your Lowrance HDS8 depth finder to see what depth the fish are holding. Learn how to use the Lowrance technology with Ken Sturdivant. Free sonar set up [email protected]
