Ransom Ririe scores BIG in the fish catching arena! More details under Savannah Snapper Banks report

Stanley DeVegter is catching big trout again!

Stanley DeVetger is holding up two nice spotted sea trout that he caught while using jumbo mud minnows as bait. According to the report he caught these fish in the mouth, oops I am sorry, while doing a little float fishing near the Wassaw Sound. His plans now are to switch from targeting spotted sea trout and move on to cobia! I think this is a good move after all it is cobia season!

Red fish, spotted sea trout, and flounder
Finally it’s time to target as well as catch these fish. However, the winds this past weekend put somewhat of a damper on this bite. The best news is this; the bite will only get better!

Sound fishing for whiting has been great!

The bottom whiting fishing in the sound continues to amaze those fishermen that do it. All you need for bait in this department is small pieces of shrimp laced onto small hooks. Best depth to fish is around 18 to 23 foot of water. And it’s best if this area is near a sand bar. Put your bait directly on the bottom and whatever you do give these fish time to eat. And don’t set the hook so hard. Where you catch one whiting there is most likely more in the same area.

It’s time to catch your own bait! Get out the old cast net!

Don’t forget your cast net! Fishermen are catching menhaden, a few shrimp, and mud minnows.

    It’s Cobia Time!

These fish are being seen and caught from the sounds to the deep blue sea! Now you know that it’s time to be ready when your visitor or visitors arrive. Best baits on the live side: eels, shrimp, menhaden, cigar minnows, and just about anything that they can **** into their mouth. As far as dead bait, well if you don’t have the live stuff throw out what you do have…When it come to artificial get yourself some cobia Candy! Order here!

Trolling or jigging at the artificial reefs can be fun!

Blue fish will eat just about anything.

    Artificial Reefs

Artificial Reefs in more than 50 feet of water are losing the interest of large populations of black sea bass. We are still doing pretty good on the catching side, but these fish aren’t as concentrated as before. The black fish are moving inshore while other are pushing offshore to deeper water. Artificial reefs located in less than 50 feet of water are holding summer trout, trigger fish, blue fish, black sea bass, and a few Spanish mackerel! Those reef located in more than 50 feet of water are holding trigger fish, blue fish, black sea bass, scup, white grunt, Spanish mackerel, king mackerel, and cobia!

It’s time to go! Your boat or mine!
The fishing on the bottom has been great in this area and now that the 2014 grouper season is open it’s all good for sure! The amberjack population seem strong our boats have been catching their share over this past week. Big ones too…some over 50 pound plus! We are catching a few grouper, dolphin,(mahi mahi) cobia, and king mackerel.
