  • Kentucky Lake Fishing Report - KY

We are about to see more of the bass to move into their post spawn patterns. The one difference we have this year is that we don’t have the high water that we normally get in the spring. The big difference that this will make is that when the bass move out on the ledges and many of them have already done this. We will not have the strong current created by the TVA lowering the lake to summer pool. The lake is barely over summer pool now. Its this current that we have for two to three weeks that creates the feeding frenzy we see the end of may and first of june. That’s why BASS and FLW always targeted to have their tournaments during this time of year because the bass feed in big packs.

The fish are still there and the packs are the same till later in the summer. But the feeding frenzy won’t be there all day long. A lot of it will depend on generation times and even a morning bite. Although an angler can create and get these fish to bite by fishing them with different techniques. One of my favorite is burning a deep running crankbait, or using one that will dredge the bottom, you want to get the bait down there and kick up silt bang it thru rocks and mussel beds.
You may have to try different lures a ¾ ounce jig or a Carolina rig zooms brush hog. I also will use big swim baits dragging it along the bottom.

Another pattern that will work this time of year is using a zoom finesse worm on channel banks and inside points and at the mouth of the creeks. Try top water like a Rico or pop R early and on cloudy days in these areas also.

I hope that some of this info will help you put some of Kentucky lakes large mouths in your boat.

    Bluegill and redear

The bluegill and redear have start moving into the shallows. Look for them along shallow gravel shorelines and fish night crawlers or crickets.

If you’re new to Kentucky Lake or just haven’t been able to figure out how to fish the hundreds of miles of ledges that it has to offer. Then this class is for you. Fishing the ledges is something a lot of anglers struggle with. Understanding what ledges hold fish, when they hold fish and why they hold fish is something I can teach you. I will help you eliminate 90% of the lake in a short time. See what type of areas hold fish and how to find the bait.

Get on schools of fish and get them fired up! This is some of my favorite techniques on this amazing lake. Just give me a call or email me at
