Today was Vern and Chris' day to do battle with the hard fighting blackfin tuna. The wind was from the SE/SSE @ 17 - 21 knots. This gave us some healthy seas. We took our time getting offshore and started in 230'. When we got to 200', the bottom rod took off and Chris reeled in a 25 pound 12 ounce blackfin after a hard fought battle. The next fish was a bonito that Vern made short work of. We worked different depths trying for a dolphin and found none.
On our last drift when we got to 200', once again the bottom rod took off and this time Vern caught another blackfin tuna. This one tipped the scale at 29 pounds 10 ounces.
The last time they fished with me, Chris got the big tuna. This time Vern bested Chris and now the score is 1 each for biggest fish. What will happen next time? Only time will tell.
Hope to see you both again next year.
Do you want to catch a big blackfin tuna? Now's the time to call or email me to set up a trip. May is by far the best month and it's half over.
