  • Kentucky Lake Fishing Report - KY

The ledge bite here at Kentucky Lake is turning on; I am seeing more active fish and bigger fish on the ledges. I am fishing Main River (12 to 25ft) and secondary ledges (7 to 18ft). The baits that are working best for me are a ¾ ounce jig green pumpkin purple and watermelon with purple, I use a zoom fat ablert twin tail in matching colors when I’m fishing ledges. Some of the bigger fish are coming on a zoom ole monster worms Carolina rigging and casting with a ¾ ounce ProTungsten weight, I really like the tungsten because I can feel the bite and also I can better identify when I’m going thru a good mussel bed. On the ole monster worm I am using a Junebug, blue fleck and plum colors.

I am fishing the jig and worm on 15 lb Seaguar AbrazX and the Carolina rig on 17lb and a 14ln leader.

A crankbait is still catching some good fish also; I have been doing best on citrus or shad colors. I am casting it on a 7ft 6 Cashion Cranking rod with a Lews reel on 12lb test Seaguar. A medium stop and go retrieve is what im doing here. I look for the big swim baits to come into play also as the water warms up so if your tournament fishing you may want to fish that a lot after you get a good limit in the boat. I like a Elite Pro ¾ ounce head rigged with a big hollow body swimbait at least 6 inches in length. Just slow crank the swim bait back to the boat on 20lb fluorocarbon with a good stiff rod. Also I like to drag the swim bait along the bottom just like you would a Carolina rig. You can find Elite pro baits at The Cabin and on eliteprobaits.com

If you’re new to Kentucky Lake or just haven’t been able to figure out how to fish the hundreds of miles of ledges that it has to offer. Then this class is for you. Fishing the ledges is something a lot of anglers struggle with. Understanding what ledges hold fish, when they hold fish and why they hold fish is something I can teach you. I will help you eliminate 90% of the lake in a short time. See what type of areas hold fish and how to find the bait.
Get on schools of fish and get them fired up! This is some of my favorite techniques on this amazing lake. Just give me a call or email me at
