  • Miami Fishing Report - FL

The summer rains have arrived to South Florida sparking the beginning of thesnook spawning season. Snook season has closed on both coasts as the fish dotheir romantic thing but they can still be targeted for catch and release. Ionly mention this because if you have never caught a snook of size than this isthe time to do it. During my last three Flamingo trips using live baits andartificial lures my clients have had over 30 shots at snook and have caught andreleased as many as 13 in a day up to 13 pounds. Besides the snook that myclients are catching on light 10 pound Daiwa Lexa spinning gear and Key largoRods my clients have had over a dozen slot size redfish during a charter plustarpon, ladyfish, snapper, jacks, sharks of all sizes, jacks, catfish andtripletail. We have seen deer on the road in the Park, raccoon's on theshorelines, big sea turtles, manatees that have swum right up to the boat, crocodiles and huge sharks. Bait has been easy to catch and the storms that wesee on the east coast have not bothered us at all in Flamingo. Not a bad way tospend a day!

In North Bay snook but not as many, tarpon that have been tough to catch, small jacks, snapper and barracudas plus a few real nice sea trout areavailable in the mornings. Once the sun gets high the fishing has tapered off.Baitfish schools have been hard to catch in North Bay so artificial lures arethe way to go.

The offshore fishing has been decent when you can catch enough bait to gooffshore. Once the bait has been obtained there are dolphins of all sizes, kingfish, bonitos, blackfin tuna and sailfish on the surface and nice groupersand snappers over some of the bottom spots.

Freshwater fishing in the Glades has been excellent but recent rain stormshave made it tough to put in a full day and the water levels are starting torise spreading the fish out.
