LAKE HARTWELL IS UP 3.5 FEET OVER FULL POOL. THE MAIN LAKE IS CLEAR AND 85.0 DEGREES, THE BACKS OF CREEKS ARE STAINED AND 88.0 DEGREES
Bass fishing is good. Hartwell is at its highest level in over 20 years, and the flood gates are open for the first time since 1998. Even with the high water, the fish are starting to get deeper than in weeks past. We have been catching fish on top water with spooks in clear or chrome and pearl white flukes early, as well as a new Bite size herring Swimbait in the blue back herring color worked fast. We have also got a few nice fish on a deep running crank bait like the Spro Little John DD in Spook Nasty color. When the bite slows, switch to a drop shot finesse worm in Green Pumpkin, a green pumpkin craw jig, or a Fish Head spin in albino color for numbers on spotted bass. If you are back in the creeks try a swim jig in bluegill color and a black popping frog next to shore line cover in backs of pockets that offer a little deeper water and a good concentration of submerged grass.
