WEST POINT LAKE IS FULL, CLEAR & 83 DEGREES
Bass and the spots are in their summertime patterns. They are in 18 to 20 feet of water on road beds, humps, main lake structure and the mouths of creeks. Try the Alabama rig with small fluke trailers in pearl on the small jig heads. Use a Carolina rigged worm any color will work right now but watermelon and dark blue are excellent. Also use a larger DD22 deep diving crank bait in shad with some blue on it. The smaller bass are bunched up on the flats and best baits are small rooster tails, Rat L Traps, and small crank baits fished slowly.
Hybrids and whites are down lake and they have moved onto the ridges, hump and roadbeds in the main lake. Live bait is the best bait. The best places to fish are the mouths of main lake creeks and point on the river. Some large hybrids have been caught up in Whitewater Creek. You may see some surface action mid day or as soon as the water starts moving. Keep a popping cork and fly handy and ready for schooling fish especially late in the afternoon and right at dark.
Crappie are biting under the bridges at night using lanterns in 8 to 10 feet of water. Fish around docks and blow downs and under the bridges during the day. Best baits are minnows and jigs. The bridge at Yellow Jacket and up Beech Creek are good areas to fish.
