LAKE LANIER IS UP 1.13 FEET, THE MAIN LAKE IS MOSTLY CLEAR AND THE CREEKS ARE SLIGHTLY STAINED AND & 82 DEGREES
Bass fishing is good. Lake levels remain high and The Corp of Engineers continues to pull water around the clock during the weekdays. The top water and swim bait bite has been steady. As the water warms, the fish are still willing to come up, but we are seeing more of a need to tweak the baits or presentation in terms of size, action or color in order to get the fish to commit. In the mornings, we have been opting for a swim bait over shallower points and humps on the main lake, sometimes with brush and sometimes not. This bite is particularly good when the wind is up in the mornings. Once the sun gets up good, the top water bite has been great over the brush in the 20 to 30 feet range on both points and humps. A Chug Bug, a Gun Fish and a Sworming Hornet Bite Size Herring Swimbait have remained the best offerings for these fish. When you cannot get the fish to come up, go down to them with a Fish Head Spin, a Dude or a shaky head worm. We have also found a great crank bait bite on windy days. We have found some very big fish shallow willing to eat a crank bait on rocky points and islands. I am booking for August. I have several dates open beginning the week of August 5th, 2013. Give me a call and let's go fishing. Call Ken Sturdivant about the ON THE WATER SCHOOLS for Sonar or the Rods, Reels and Lures for Bass or a full day STRIPERS School. Call 770 889 2654 for details.

Striper fishing is very good. Not a lot has changed this week. We expected to see a river channel trolling bite materialize but the fish are still scattered over the southern half of the lake without a dominate pattern. The stripers are everywhere and nowhere. Finding the fish with the Lowrance Structure Scan and Down Scan technology is extremely important. We can see fish off the sides of the boat and then mark them on GPS and go then go get bait to them. We caught fish over 40 foot bottom off points, in pockets and over 100 foot bottoms. The good news is when you find them they will eat a Herring on a down rod and the school will stick around a little longer; which equals more fish caught out of a single school. Your best bet continues to be checking pockets off the creek mouths and the main lake. If you see one or two fish go ahead and drop some Herring down to them. Set your down rods at 30 to 40 feet and change your bait often. Keep the bait cool also. The afternoon bite is a little better than mornings, but the rain and storms have kept me from fishing afternoons. We have been focusing on creeks from Vann’s Tavern south. The fish are continuing to move and pinning them down has proven to be a challenge. You may have to check a given pocket several times during the day. The GON BLAST @ Gwinnett Civic Center is August 2-4, 2013 www.gon.com. Cabala’s is coming to Acworth, Georgia in 2014.
