LAKE ALLATOONA IS DOWN 7.8 FEET, HIGH, 50’S, STAINED
Bass fishing is really good right now. The water temperatures have dropped in the high 50s and the fish are beginning to feed up and get ready for winter. Some schooling activity can be found in the mouth is the creeks and windblown pockets. Fish are on the move and are targeting Threadfin Shad mainly. Fishhead spins with Big Bite jointed jerk minnows are great choices to catch these fish. The float n fly bite is slow but getting better. As the water drops in the mid 50's it will really get good. Watch for shad to ball and get tighter together. The red rooster custom fly in thread fin is working well. If you are fishing the float n fly now, be more aggressive with your retrieve to get more bites.

Line side fishing is fair. The north end of the lake is still holding a ton of fish and most are white bass and small hybrids. These fish will not hit live bait. But, they will take a spoon as fast as you drop it down to them. Look for these fish north of Galt’s Ferry. Mid lake is where you want to be if you are looking for stripers. Bartow Carver to the dam is the place to be for stripers and bigger schools of hybrids. These fish are not eating live bait either. We have had our best luck mid lake pulling umbrella rigs the last few times out. These fish have moved out of the river channel and up on the edge of it. Look for these fish to be in water 20 to 40 deep. We look for the live bait bite to start any day. Going to the lake without live bait would be a big mistake. This time of the year you need to be open minded on your techniques. Top water, trolling, spooning and live bait can all work this time of year. But, what worked yesterday, might not work tomorrow. Take the kitchen sink with you when heading out to the pond this time of year. We think striper fishing is only a few days away from busting wide open. Also, the top water bite is just around the corner. I still have a few days open for December and January. And remember a TRIP WITH FIRST BITE GUIDE SERVICE makes a GREAT Christmas gift. There is still plenty of time to get you gift certificates in time for Christmas.
