Inshore Fishing!
Well, we are at the end of November and water temps are still teeter tottering between high fifties and low sixties. No matter how you look at it these are good temperatures for red fish, spotted sea trout, flounder, black drum, and Sheepshead. Best baits as you already know what I am going to say are going to be live shrimp. And believe me since there is so much bait shrimp hanging so close to the bait houses stocks are good. If you liked to cast your own net, your chances are still good that you might catch some. However, between the times you read this and get ready to go fishing things in the water temperature department might have changed. So I suggest always having a back up baiting up plan. For instance no matter what there is always going be mud minnows and finger mullet. They are the stay-er baits for this area, meaning no migration plans are being made. Mud minnows can be caught with a trap or if you have the right mesh size net you can catch them this way. As far a finger mullet there normally is always some to be caught in the backs of small creeks. You might have to do a little looking, but you could make this part of your fishing day. Since I am a fisherman and taking fishermen fishing I know for a fact that catching bait can be just plain fun!
Jeff Edge while fishing with Captain Matt Williams of Miss Judy Charters on a windy, higher tide than usual and cooler day conditions still managed to catch some nice fish!
Shirley Green while fishing with Jeff Edge and Captain Matt caught a few nice red fish even with windy conditions. Proving once again if you don’t go you will not know!
James Kinney Group while fishing with Captain Big Tommy Williams had quite a fish day! The group caught red fish, spotted sea trout, black drum, and Sheepshead! According to this report the fish didn’t bite for most of the trip. However, about 30 minutes before the trip time was over the bite started and it was a hit and hook up almost every time!
Captain Tommy Williams, Latoya, and JR Pasha had a great day catching, releasing, and keeping some nice fish. The caught spotted sea trout, red fish, black drum, and sheepshead! In cases like this we don’t have to ask whom caught the biggest fish, but I will say anyhow it was Latoya. There is a reason for this just about every time it happens…Latoya listened and followed instructions quite well! And now you know the rest of the story!
Lisa Cavanagh while fishing with Captain Garrett Ross of Miss Judy Charters caught a nice red fish!
Artificial Reefs
It’s Sheepshead time!!
For those that want to give Sheepshead fishing a try now is the time. The offshore Sheepshead migration has taken place and they have arrived at the near shore artificial reefs. Best bait to use is anything that comes wrapped in a shell meaning purple back fiddlers, black back fiddlers, mussels, barnacles, and shrimp. Please remember in order to hook up a Sheepshead it is best to set the hook before it takes a bite! My father used to say, “It take 10 to 1 to catch a Sheepshead!” This meant that in most cases you will lose ten fiddlers to every fish that you finally do hook up!” Your odds get better the more you go fish!!
This picture says it all! Captain Ryan Howard of Miss Judy Charters is holding a Sheepshead! And what does all of this mean? It is Sheepshead catching time!
While on a fish man’s holiday with the family Captain Ryan went sheepshead fishing. His crew consisted of Wendy Coates, and parent Wanda and Donald Howard. And did they catch fish, well, they did and had a lot of fun doing it!
Donald Howard is holding up a nice Sheepshead that he caught while using a purple back fiddler as bait!
Mrs Wanda Howard, Ryan’s mother, could not the let the other out do her! So she caught the most as well as the biggest!
Savannah Snapper Banks
While fishing with Captain Ryan Howard Wendy Coates caught this nice genuine red snapper that she caught while plain old bottom fishing at the Savannah Snapper Banks. 2015 grouper season will be open until the end of the year! All I know is it is time to go!
