It is time to do a little fishing at the Gulf Stream!
Wendy Coates, while blue water fishing with Captain Ryan Howard of Miss Judy Charters, landed a nice Yahoo Wahoo! Yes, they were high speed trolling!
Glenn Conway our surf fishing specialist has some great fish catching news!
Glenn Conway’s Surf Report!
He sent me the reel time surf fishing report and now I am sharing it with you!
And what does Glenn’s surf report boil down to? Real fish bites are taking place, he is using fish bites for bait, and he is catching fish, and even seeing a few March mermaids!
Glenn say, Hey Judy, I think I have whipped the ol’ cabin fever and have enjoyed several trips to the beach, here you go.
3/14/16
Wow, water temps soaring to almost 65, warm south winds, approaching storm from the southwest. I could not stand it anymore, had to get out to the beach for some bait soaking. Armed with only Fishbites I managed a few decent sized Whiting and turned one of those around and landed a large Cownosed Ray. The Ray fought well, tested my equipment and was released unharmed. Dang they are ugly. I was only able to fish for a couple of hours but is was good to shake off winter and get some fishing in. Spring surf fishing has begun.
3/15/16
Fished 4 to 7, took an hour twenty minutes using Fishbites (check this out ..http://fishbites.com/) to land a Whiting, turned it around and had a pick up and a drop. Brought back just a flattened out Whiting head. Hooked and beached a horseshoe crab which entertained the tourists.
Highlight of the trip was the many co-ed spring breakers, ooooh I like me some mermaids!
Water temp is mid-sixties, incredible.
3/17/16
Fished 5-7, surf flat, sand gnats were hungry, best Whiting bite so far this year, mostly shorts with couple of nice ones! A few doubles. All on Fishbites. Landed a plate sized Atlantic Stingray with a missing tail, why do folks do that?
Had a ok run on the big rod, I thought it was dropped, but the fish had done a 180 and come to me, I made a rookie mistake and had over tightened the drag, fish took off and snapped my braid at shock leader knot, possibly another cownose, but I think different, an early season toothy critter?
3/18/16
Fished 1-5, incoming tide, water was cleaner than I've seen in a while. Nice 3' surfable waves. Nothing on the big rod. Whiting were generally short and hit sporadically. I did manage a few keepers. For those needing a surf fishing fix, it’s a good time go. Water temp 65-66. Things are picking up and starting to get good.

Sound Fishing Report!
I am always saying, “Whiting like to peel their shrimp before eating them!” So sometimes I suggest peeling your shrimp before threading it on your hook. However, this peeled shrimp as bait doesn’t work all of the time. So with that being said, I give the old whiting what it seems to want at least most of the time. A small piece of un-peeled shrimp and let it do its own cleaning job. This picture above is a piece of shrimp that a whiting peeled, became uninterested, and basically left the meat and the shell behind. Here’s how my father and I fished for whiting during my younger days…After catching a whiting, my father would always say, “Drop right back in that same spot, because this is most likely where school is being held!”
Plain Old Bottom Fishing In Wassaw Sound!
Captain Judy, Rusty Parker his son Jack along with Grandpa Roland
For the fishing record we had a blast. Now we didn’t get exactly what we wanted to catch, but we did catch some very interesting sea creatures. While on a 4 hours fishing trip in the sound Rusty, Jack, Roland, Captain Kathy, and me (Captain Judy) had a blast taking and catching. Our goal was to try and hook up a big shark. Well, we fished for them, but did not even get a run. However, Jack did hook, fight, and released two nice cow nose rays. Now talk about a fight, Jack got one for sure. The first ray we boated long enough to remove the hook and take a quick picture. The second ray that Jack hooked up, he brought to the boat successfully and we removed the hook without taking it out of the water. And I have to admit this and I think all on board will agree…Jack age nine caught the biggest and the most fish. Now I know what you might be thinking…that maybe we helped him the most. Well, this is not true! He caught his own fish and most of the time he wasn’t even holding his rod. Jack catching theory was proven more than 25 times. We baited his hook; he dropped his bait to the bottom, put his rod in the holder, moved away, and sat down. Now, believe me all others were fishing while holding their rods and we/they did not get as much action. So therefore Jack got first place using his own personal catching style.
Jack Parker landed this nice cow nose ray while plain old bottom fishing in the sound! And what was this young fisherman using for bait? A signature cut whiting steak!
Artificial Reefs equals Short Boat Rides to the FISH!
Captain Steve Triple Trouble Howell is steadying Captain Kathy Brown as she holds up his just caught Sheepshead!
While fishing at the artificial Reef KC the past week, Captain Steve Triple Trouble Howell, Captain Kathy Brown, and Captain Judy Helmey had a Sheepshead catching blast! While using purple back fiddlers we caught some real nice sheepshead. Now, they didn’t bite all day, we didn’t catch them while it was pouring down rain, or when the thunder and lightning show took place. However, all other times we fished and we fished hard. The Sheepshead bite on this particular day was especially light causing the three of us accomplished fishermen trouble feeling any quick feeding passes delivered. The fact of the matter is there were quite a few times where all I had left on my hook was a completely balanced empty fiddler back shell. Every time this happens to me I can’t believe that the empty fiddler back stays on the hook on the retrieve, but it does for sure! A few times the old Sheepshead was so quick that it removed the fiddler’s back leaving part of the body with most of its legs still intact. The backed cleaned out fiddler body was left hanging on my hook. To this day I have to wonder how this fish does all of this to something so small as well as so quick while all along leaving it right on the hook.
Captain Steve Triple Trouble Howell scores again and again and again! Captain Judy is assisting and is also in charge of the dip net, well at least some of the time!
This is a move that a fiddler makes when it wants to get away from a pending Sheepshead bite! What does this move indelicate? It is my opinion it means first, there are Sheepshead in the feeding mode and second the fiddler knows it! Fiddler crabs have a great pair of telescopic eyes!
Savannah Snapper Banks
Captain Ryan Howard fished the banks the pass weekend and had a bonus catching, keeping, and releasing kind of fish day! The main fisher on board that caught more than her share of the fish was Chyler Ross. Her father Captain Garret Ross, fishes with Captain Ryan as his first mate and also has an inshore boat that he runs for us when he is not fishing offshore.
Please meet Chyler Ross age nine aka “Fishing Machine!”
Chyler is holding some really nice fish!
Chyler Ross (age nine) while bottom fishing with Captain Ryan and her father Captain Garrett had a great catching day at the Savannah Snapper Banks! We will call these two pictures, pictures of her smaller fish caught while plain old bottom fishing.
Chyler is holding some really big fish!
Chyler Ross age nine is holding a genuine red snapper and an amberjack. These two pictures are of the larger fish that she caught! I can’t till she goes next time…The fish most likely will not fit in the picture!! Congratulations Chyler!
Gulf Stream Report
Captain Ryan Howard of Miss Judy Charters proves once again that if you are making a move you might as well drag a lure!
Captain Ryan Howard of Miss Judy Charter is holding up a just caught Yahoo Wahoo! The fish gladly hit a Cow Bell (Ballyhoo) high speed trolling lure proving once again that a Wahoo likes to chase first what it intends of eating second!

It is time to get your blue water trip on the books! The reason being is this bites starts in mid March and ends sometimes in June. Or until the waters to the west of the stream become the same temperature as the blue waters of the stream! I know some might be asking how I can keep up with this, well, I suggest going to http://sstcharts.com/ after logging on to this blue water site and it is free, too, you will find that it can keep you well informed of current water temps. It is a known fact that big fish eat small fish, but to find these fish, no matter the size, you have to find the right water temperatures!
