Bass fishing is good. The top water and swim bait bite has been steady. We have actually enjoyed a couple of days of sun this week which has helped the bite. In the mornings, we have been opting for a swim bait over shallower points and humps on the main lake sometimes with brush and sometimes not. This bite is particularly good when the wind is up in the mornings. Once the sun gets up good, the top water bite has been great over the brush in the 20 to 30 feet range on both points and humps. A Chug Bug, a Gun Fish and a Sworming Hornet Bite Size Herring Swimbait have remained the best offerings for these fish. When you cannot get the fish to come up, go down to them with a Fish Head Spin, a Dude or a shaky head worm. The only 2 days I have left in July are the 23 and 27. Call me to book an exciting top water and swim bait trip. Call Ken Sturdivant about the ON THE WATER SCHOOLS for Sonar or the Rods, Reels and Lures for Bass or a full day STRIPERS School. Call 770 889 2654 for details.

Striper fishing is good. Stripers are everywhere and nowhere! We continued to catch fish over 40 foot bottom off points, in pockets over 40 to 70 foot bottoms and in creek and river channels over 100+ foot bottoms. We caught them on lead core, umbrella rigs and down line fresh frisky herring. The good news is we are seeing more fish over open water and the lead core bite at 7 and 8 colors is improving. However, herring on down rods at 30 to 50 feet is your best option. If you see one or two fish go ahead and drop some herring down to them. You will probably not find any big schools. We are using a 6 to 7 foot 12 pound Seaguar fluorocarbon leader tied to a main line which is 20 pound Seaguar fluorocarbon line with a swivel and a two ounce slip weight. Change the herring every 15 to 20 minutes. Lively bait is critical when fishing down rods during the summer months. Lake Lanier Poker Run is this weekend and you may want to take the week end off from fishing. Lots of big fast boats will be on the lake and I do not see how fishing could be fun.
