LAKE LANIER IS DOWN 3.4 FEET, THE CREEKS ARE STAINED AND THE MAIN LAKE IS CLEAR & 80’S

Bass fishing on Lake Lanier has been good this past week. The US Army Corp of Engineers continues to pull water through the week and therefore the lake levels are continuing to drop. The lake sets at nearly 3.5 feet down currently. Sorry folks, not a lot of change in this week’s report. The song remains largely the same. The early morning bite for spots has been good with a variety of baits to include topwater like a chug bug and a gun fish, as well as a plastic swimbait on a Picasso Swim Head. We have been working humps and points with access to deep water. Fish are typically around areas with brush, but not always. The early morning bite has been mainly a schooling bite. Catching these fish, which are often big ones, requires a precise cast to the area of activity. Set up your rigs to make long casts to be ready for these situations. After the morning schooling bite, we have had good success running and gunning brush piles around the lake with topwater baits such as a chug bug and a Vixen, as well as with a SuperSpin. Work the topwater baits over the brush and expect a response from any active fish within the first few casts. If you get no response on top, switch to a SuperSpin and swim the bait around and over the brush. When the moving bait bite slows down, switch to a drop shot worm and work it vertically on fish you can see on your Lowrance. Focus on main lake rocky points and on secondary points as well, and remember sometimes the fish are relating specifically to the brush, so make sure to work the brush thoroughly as well. Here is what I have open in July: 8. 10(AM), 11, 12, 27, 28, 29, and 30(AM). Give me a call and let's go fishing

This Lake Lanier Striper report is from Captain Ken West and Captain Mike Maddalena of www.bigfishonguide.com

Striper fishing is good. Summer is here and the fish are moving fast! It is not unusual to find a school of fish and have them move before you can get baits down. The fish have also started to move off of the creek points and into the creek channels and pockets. The down rod bite with Blueback Herring has been strong and will continue to be the primary technique through this summer. We have increased our 12 pound Seaguar fluorocarbon leader from 5 to 7 foot. The 7 foot leaders seemed to outperform the 5 foot leaders this week. If you are not using a Ben Parker Spoon you are missing out on some fun. There are two approaches to using the Spoon. One is to “jig it” by rising it up 8 feet and letting it fall back down and the second is to “burn it” by dropping it down as far as possible and reeling it up as fast as possible. Tying your spoon to a line counter reel is critical to keeping it out of the trees. You can also watch it on you Lowrance Sonar to control the depth. All of the creeks south of Browns Bridge are holding fish. Two Mile, Six Mile, Flowery Branch, Orr, Shoal and Baldridge are some of the creeks we fished last week. The lake is 4 foot below full pool and clear in the creeks and main lake. The lake temperature is in the low 80’s and rising.
