People with boats, other water related equipment, and facilities should be alert to changing conditions on and below Alabama Power lakes, and take the necessary steps to protect their property. The cooler nights the past week has cooled the water a little, and put some oxygen back in, some Bass have moved shallow. The Crappie are starting to bite better. Look for the fishing to start getting really good again with this cool front coming in.
Bass fishing is fair and some fish have moved shallower, a lot of bass are still on deeper cover, under deeper docks and on the creek and river channel ledges, humps and submerged road beds, they are being caught on medium to deep running crank baits, 1/2 ounce spinner baits, Carolina rigged plastics, and jigs. 20 plus pound stringers have been winning the tournaments all year, The Bass fishing on Weiss Lake, rivals Lake Guntersville for the last 2 years. The Weiss Lake Improvement Association and Weiss Lake Anglers, will be stocking Florida Strain Largemouth on October 24th.
Striper fishing is Fair and they are being caught in the lower Chattooga River, at the Cave Hole in Little River and Little Spring Creek, down lining and flat lining live shad 8 10 feet deep in the river channel.
Crappie fishing is good and most fish are on the main Coosa river channel ledges and Little River, in 12 16 feet of water on cover, and they can be caught spider rigging with live minnows, fished 2 4 feet above the bottom. Some fish are being caught under docks in the main lake, shooting jigs, a 1/24 ounce Jiffy Jig in colors JJ13 and JJ17 is working great.
