LAKE ALLATOONA IS DOWN 13.7 FEET, 50’S & CLEAR

This Lake Allatoona fishing guides report by Matt Driver.

Bass fishing is good. Big spots in 3 pound plus range are coming on the drop shot and jigging spoon. Fish are around 15 to 17 feet range as the water temperatures are around the 50 degree mark. Use a Big Bite sugar cane worm in easy money on a 1/0 Gamakatsu with hook with a bait holder. Fish are scattered but not too hard to find if look in the area of ditches in the mouths of the creeks. As far as the spoon bite go the white 1/2 ounce Flex It spoon is hard to beat. Use quick six inch jerks while holding the bait in the strike zone. Last but not least the Float n Fly is alive and well with good numbers of spots. Most fish are coming off the white with blue and chartreuse Red Rooster fly. Be sure to dope the fly with bite booster so you can mold the bait to imitate a shad. Fish this bait slowly.

Line side fishing is good. The schools that have had been feeding before the rains are even feeding stronger now. Shad, trout and shiners fished on down lines, free lines and planner boards will all get you bit right now. The bite is nothing like it is in the summertime. But compare to the last two months it is on Fire. Mid from lake north. There is a good bite on the south end as well. This bite is running about four weeks late due to the warm weather. But I bet it will last into February and if we don't see a shad kill, it may be here to stay. Trolling umbrella rig is probably the best overall bite if you are looking for hybrids and stripers but these fish are smaller size. This week I have been pulling our rigs 75 to 80 feet behind the boat on a 16 to 20 bottom. These fish are on the move so make sure you cover a lot of water. We have caught fish as far north as the S turns this week all the south to the dam. Top water bite is good as we have more top water this week then I have seen in months. Fishing is on fire for winter standards.
