Bass fishing is good as the water is warming due to the unseasonal weather and the abundance of sunlight. Jigs, lightweight Texas rigs, jerk baits and spinner baits are working. Many more fish are now showing up in deep water some in large schools. And they will bite sometime during each day. Depths are mostly ranging from 15 to 20 feet deep. Look for bass on the sides of main river points and flats. The key, as with shallow fish, is to find the best bait for that moment in time. Lowrance Down Scan technology can scan much wider areas with the narrow beams so anglers can see the bait, the structure and the fish four times better than with sonar. Find the bait and you will find the fish. Jigging spoons like a .6 Flex It, Hopkins Shorty 45 and Bomber Slab spoon have all worked well recently. Chrome, white, and chartreuse are the best colors to try along with gold during cloud cover. Crank baits like a Norman DD22, Mann’s 20 Plus, Rapala DT14, and Poe’s 400 can all produce. Other baits to try are a jig head and finesse worm, Carolina rig, drop shot rig and jig and trailer.
