Summer 2017 is here, watertemperatures nearing 80’, warmer mornings with slick calmconditions some days, loads of bait fish schools including mullet,menhaden, and sardines. Redfish scattering out on the flats and onbackwater shorelines, seatrout hanging on the deeper drop offshunting shrimp and baitfish, snook hugging close to structure toambush their prey, jack crevalle and ladyfish schools making for funlight tackle catch and release rod bending. Summer bait choices rangefrom live shrimp in the backwaters for variety catching as everysaltwater fish eats a shrimp, to live finger mullet, pigfish, andpinfish. Seatrout fishing has been good both in the backcountry aswell as off the edges of the flats in Mosquito Lagoon, Ron with agood Speck on one of my Indian River backcountry trips atEdgewater……………..

Sharks are also a possiblityin the back channels of Mosquito Lagoon, there have been smallBlacktips as well as Shovelnose like this one Vicky battled on lighttackle………………




Repeat clients from DenverMick and Kelly came with me on a 2 day charter, first day in the backwaters for mixed bag catching, we counted 14 species from Trout toSnappers, Jacks to Ladyfish, Croakers to Spots , etc. Day 2 we hitthe flats hunting Redfish was a windy day making it a little tougherbut still caught several spot tails, Kelly and Redfish……………….






You never know when a BlackDrum will come calling in the back creeks as Courtney found out………………
