Surface temps as of Monday, are ranging near 44ºF early to 48ºF range later under full sun, depending on location. Continue to use caution in navigation on Little River and Millwood this week, watching for random, broken, or floating timber with the current conditions of river flow in Little River. Navigation is normal conditions with the current discharge.
Clarity and visibility continue improving over the past week, and navigation is considered cautious along Little River with the current discharge around 15,800CFS. Some debris is present in Little River current, use caution. Further up river finds highest turbidity rates. As of Monday on main lake structure away from current, clarity & visibility is moderate stain, ranging approx 7-10 inches. Little River's visibility ranges 6-8 inches with stained conditions, depending on location and current. The oxbow's clarity currently ranging approx 15-25 inches depth of visibility depending on location. Clarity and visibility can change dramatically on Millwood in just a few hours with high winds, rain, or thunderstorms.

The Details:
Largemouth Bass: Millwood continues dropping back to normal over the past couple weeks, and slowly beginning to clear up somewhat from recent Lake Wind Advisories, rain, and thunderstorms from the past several weeks. The bite for bass is good most days for Largemouths, during the mid day hours in the oxbows, and Bass will respond to crankbaits in the oxbows. Good reactions are getting bit and using Bomber crankbaits, large bulky Gizzit tubes, or Berkley Power Worms, are getting good responses. The best locations over the past few weeks have been in the back of the oxbows on points where tributary creeks and ditches dump in, ranging from 8 to 15 feet deep with stumps. For the past couple weeks, Largemouths remain good during the heat of the day, and continue hitting crankbaits and Rat-L-Traps in the creeks between 8-12 feet of depth. The best crankbaits drawing reactions over the past few weeks were Bomber Fat Free Shads in Citrus Shad, Threadfin Shad, or Pearl White. Rat-L-Traps and SpinTraps in shad patterns like Millwood Magic, Liv-N Chrome, Ghost Shad, or Transparent remain working near mid-day warmer periods, in back of the oxbows away from muddy Little River current flows. These are still drawing random reactions in creek channels with any cypress trees, standing timber, and stumps. Bulky, fat tube jigs like Gizzits, Brush Hogs, 10-12" bulky Power Worms, and Real Deal Custom Tackle Jigs continue taking a few chunky, Largemouths in the creek channels from 10-15 feet deep on stumps, and on secondary points with stumps from 6-10 feet deep. Blackberry, Pumpkinseed, June Bug Red, or Red Shad and Blue Fleck colors continue to be good colors for soft plastic brush hogs or 10" Power Worms from solitary Bass not chasing shad. A slow moving, Real Deal Custom Tackle jig in Habenero, Pumpkin/Chartreuse, or Texas Craw with black craw trailer are getting a few good reaction bites near stumps in 8-9 feet of depth in creek channel outside swings. Jumbo or Magnum 4" Gizzit Tubes are still drawing a few solid hits from solitary, 2-5 pound Largemouth Bass on stumps in creek channel swings, ditches, wash-outs, ridges, and cuts behind secondary points along the river. Best colors of tube jigs and Gizzits over the past couple weeks are Black Neon, Black/Blue tail, and Pumpkinseed or Green Pumpkin with tail tentacles dipped in JJ Magic Chartreuse dipping dye. Pitching the gizzits on stumps from multiple angles seems to initiate a reaction in mid-day warmer periods. Slow rolling, heavy 3/4 oz War Eagle Spinnerbaits in white/chartreuse, or Hot Mouse colors continue getting good reactions in the oxbows fished slow from 7-10 feet of depth. If the water clarity is heavier stained, we are switching over to a Fire Tiger color in the dirtier water.
White Bass: Decent size schools of White Bass are still roaming in the oxbows, and nice 2-4 pound White Bass continue randomly hitting Crankbaits in Horseshoe and McGuire oxbow lakes up Little River. These White Bass have dropped off into slightly deeper water over the past few weeks, in the oxbows, and were back randomly hitting Fat Free Shads, Rat-L-Traps, Cordell Hammered Spoons with red/white bucktails, and Rocket Shads. Best color crankbaits for the White Bass seem to be the Tennessee Shad and the Citrus Shad patterns.
Crappie: were beginning to stack up vertically over planted brush piles and standing timber in the oxbows, but have scattered over the past week or so with all the recent muddy runoff from rain, high wind, thunderstorms, and river current from gate changes at the dam resulting in muddy flows along Little River.
Cats: continue biting well on Yo-Yo's and trot lines in the current of Little River. Punch bait, chicken livers and gizzards, & Catalpa Worms have been working for the last couple weeks from 12-21 feet deep.

Millwood Lake and Little River conditions continue to return to normal from recent thunderstorms over the several weeks, and USACE gate flow at the Millwood Dam was increased to accelerate normal pool conditions returning. Elevation is 10" above normal conservation pool, falling with increased current of Little River is around 15,800 CFS. Exercise increased caution during navigation on Millwood Lake along Little River with the changing release rates and river flow conditions, as some debris and logs are present in current flow and discharge rates. Always use caution during navigation along Little River with current, or high flow conditions. Expect to see normal pool possibly by next week with no additional rainfall.

Normal consv. pool is 259.2 ft-msl. Monday pool is 260.03 ft-msl. The tailwater level is near 244 ft-msl. Wear your life jacket and kill switch and watch for obstructions, floaters, broken limbs, logs, and debris along Little River during navigation. New NO-WAKE ZONE in effect at White Cliffs Campground on the river, and marked with river buoys. Be advised, no tolerance of boat wakes within the marked area, is being enforced by AGFC along the river. Watch for increased current and debris in Little River.

Wear your Life Jacket and kill switch!! If you are suddenly or unexpectedly thrown from your boat, it could be your only chance of survival. Use caution navigating Little River in low light conditions, SLOW DOWN, and pass friendly to other boaters! As always, careful watch for any random floaters and debris in Little River's current, and wearing your PFD and kill switch is a requirement!
