IN Resident Hunting/Fishing License Info
I have been searching though the IDNR web site to try to figure out when the Hunting and Fishing License that were purchased last year 2006 will expire? I looked at my fishing license and it was good from April 2006 though sometime in March 2007.
I was just surprise that there was not more information on when these license actually expire. Maybe it was on the dnr web site and I missed it somehow.
I want to be ready to hunt and fish in 2007 and want to buy my new license now.
I have a 2006 fishing license but I now wish to do some hunting this winter Jan 2007 though Feb 2007.
Is there any information on the IDNR web site that says just how long a license last? when do the 2006 fishing license expire?
Right now I have a valid fishing license until March of 2007 sometime. But I want to buy a hunting and fishing license now so that I can hunt and fish all year.
I hate buying the fishing license right now since my old 2006 fishing license will be good for another 2 months at least. But I don't want to buy just a hunting license now and then a fishing license later in Mark or April.
Isn't it cheaper to get both hunting and fishing combined at the same time vs buying each one separately?
I'll just end up going online and get the combo in the next few days.
And I guess I'll have to start thinking about boat registration and the Lake Permit if I want to fish Patoka this year. I didn't buy my lake permit until late last year as I didn't fish Patoka much last year until the fall. This coming year I guess I am going to have to fish Patoka more often just to get my money's worth out of that $20 lake permit thing that we now have to have. Man Fish that I catch are worth about $299/ lb with all that we have to spend on fishing equipment and license fees and all the other necessities that we have to have to fish and hunt. It's not getting any cheaper! :(

Just give them a call...

That should get your questions taken care of.

RE: Check with the Law Enforcement Division
Thanks. The last time I called the local Sheriff's dispatch and they had one of the CO for this county call me at home. He gave me some information but then said that I had to call Sugar Ridge to get my other questions answered.
NOTE: the email address for District 7 does not work for me. I get errors when I try to email this address.

I don't have AT&T long distance (long story I won't get into now) If I do make a call anywhere out of my area but within the 812 prefix AT&T will put me though, but they charged me 25 cents a minute the last time. I was not aware that I could even make a long distance call of any type until I got though one time and later got the bill. AT&T is sneaky is all I have to say!
I'll just call them with my cell phone as that only costs me 10 cents a minute. I am using one of those prepaid Verizon cell phones and the Verizon people charge me $1.00 a day even if I don't make any calls that day. That #### but that's the cheapest plan they offer. I could sign up for the $70/month plan but I don't need that many minutes. But then with the pay as you go plan they let me call anyone on their Verizon customer list for free 24/7. So the $1 a day is not so bad if I call my Verizon friends a lot each day.
I get free nights but they don't start until 9:01 pm and then that ends at 5:59 pm. So that's not really useful for me. Sort of a joke if you go to bed early and don't get up early. Which is what you do when you are retired.
I wonder what time they open up at Sugar Ridge? LOL I may call up there at 5:30 am and see if anyone is there. I sort of doubt it. My last phone call up there I talked to the secretary and she was helpful.
I was just wondering why I can't find the information on the IDNR web site. I would have thought that they would have more information on the hunting and fishing licenses. There was a link but it didn't work either. Grrrr.
The IDNR should update their web site and keep it up to date.
I looked on my fishing license and it expires sometime in March of 07.
I'll just go buy my combo license in a bit. I can buy it online and it should be good for all of 2007 and that will cover me. Then all I need to get is my Patoka Lake Sticker for my boat. I may even buy a year pass to get though to the Newton Stewart Ramps this year. That $4 each day makes it worth the 36 bucks if you go up there a lot.
I'll check out that link you posted. Thanks
RE: IN Resident Hunting/Fishing License Info
Moose ,
I checked the DNR website { http://www.in.gov/ai/appfiles/dnr-license/index.html } and you can get your combo H/F for 2007 for $25 . It will take effect 4/01/07 . So I guess all of our fishing licenses expire 3/31/07 . If you want to hunt now you have to get a 2006 hunting license , thats the way they have it set up . It seems that a combo license is the cheaper way to go and I plan on getting mine in March . I had to get a lake permit to fish my jon boat at Greene-Sullivan last summer and wasnt to happy about it . I have a bass boat and a jon boat so if I wanted to fish Patoka I either had to peel the permit off all the time or buy 2 of the stupid things , what a rip ! If you have a non power canoe or kayak you STILL have have to have a $7 lanch permit . I wonder if I showed up at Patoka with log and a paddle if they would charge me ?
Har !
RE: IN Resident Hunting/Fishing License Info
Let me see if I can clear the air here a little. Everything is expensive anymore. One of the reasons for the $20.00 lake permit was, all the boats that are docked at all these marinas on all these lakes, kept them there all year, never paid launch fees since they were already there. You and I paid every time we put in. Now they have to have a permit on their boat each year just like we do, now it's the same for everyone. It wasn't fair for those boats to be on the lakes not having that permit. The DNR actually listened to us about that one and changed it... You know, that permit will get you on all dnr lakes, not just Patoka. Also some people complain because they only go a couple times a year, I say go fishing more, it calms the nerves and is good for your heart. Relaxation is a good thing...
RE: IN Resident Hunting/Fishing License Info
LOL on the log and paddle. I have to go to the dentist today and that made me laugh and forget about having dental appointment.
That is exactly what I was afraid of. I was hoping to be able to buy the combo this week and use the hunting part of it the next few months. I want to hunt coyotes and need a hunting license do do that. I should have bought the combo license last April like I did the year before.
Now I have to buy a 2006 hunting license for just a few months and then turn around and buy the combo 2007 license for the rest of the year. Oh well. They get us one way or another. At least it's for a good cause. I fully support or DNR and what they do. And these fees help them say in business. If it were not for that fact I would really be bitching. LOL I just don't want to spend anymore than I have to. I'm pretty Conservative when it comes to spending my money on things.
Thanks for the information as that was exactly what I was looking for.

RE: IN Resident Hunting/Fishing License Info
Thanks for clearing that up. I am not against the 20 dollar fee. Well I do wish we could launch for free but I also realize that we have to pay to keep the lakes up etc. So I pay it. But I just hate to see money leaving my wallet. LOL Like everyone I would rather see money coming into my wallet than leaving. But I know its' for a good cause.
It does seem to get more expensive to live and have fun each year. The utility company that service me wants a rate hike. But my boss won't give me a raise! The utility says this is the first rate hike that they have asked for in several years. But last year the price of NG skyrocketed and we had people paying $800/month for gas and electric service in Jan. Thankfully the price of NG has gone down a bit but not that much.
Our utility has been force by a law suit to finally comply with the Clan Air Act of 1977 and the Clean Air Act Amendments of 1999.
The utility among others was sued by USEPA and force to add new pollution controls to their smoke stacks to control Acid rain.
SO2 and Mercury emissions spew out right above the creek that I want to fish for crappie.
I looked at an satellite view of my potential fishing spot and then saw that it's right in the shadow of the smoke stacks of my utility company.
Then. I thought of all the burned coal dust that had been coming out of those stacks for the last 30 years or more. And then, I though about how much mercury had fallen from the sky around those smoke stacks. Thank god the creek has moving water that can wash the mercury down stream into the river and carry it all the way to New Orleans. But, that creek does not always flow very fast. At times the river may flow into the creek and the creek becomes more stagnant or has a very slow flow rate. The mercury can accumulate in the muddy surroundings and wash back into the creek and accumulate in the muddy bottom. This mercury is in small amounts when it first leaves the smoke stack, but it can accumulate around the smoke stacks over 40 years time. And life has a way of concentrating the mercury up the food chain to humans.
I won't be eating the fish out of this creek, but instead I am looking for that one big crappie that I can mount on the wall or use for bragging rights.
I am sure that there are some huge crappie in this creek. It's just a shame that it's so full of mud.
The creek and it's headwaters is surrounded by farmland. And the farm land loses top soil into this creek by the thousands of tons over time.
What was once a clear running stream with cool blue water is now a muddy mess when it rains. Dirt runs off the plowed fields and since there is not much ground cover between the edge of the fields and the creek the mud enter the creek and settles to the bottom. At times of high flow rates the mud is carried downstream only to be put into the Ohio River. This happens up and down the Ohio River for miles in each direction.
Before the English and French settled this area the land was covered by deep hardwood forests and there was not as much erosion as there is today. So the river ran much cleaner and didn't have the silt loading that it has today.
But then we didn't have AC and electric lights and TV back in those days. And we had to chop our own wood to build a fire and home to stay warm. So times are changing.
I just wish that the old fishing spot had better water quality and that I didn't have to worry about eating the fish I catch.
Yes, everything cost more these day. Including health insurance and medical bills and my utility bills. It all adds up guys. Not really complaining just stating some facts that we need to think about.
Everything cost MORE money these days.
I don't mind paying for the lake permits. I don't mind buying a fishing license either. I don't mind paying to register my boat. I do mind paying $2.25 a gallon for gasoline and $800/month for gas and electric though.

RE: IN Resident Hunting/Fishing License Info
The DNR should not charge anyone for launching a canoe. I am sorry, but that is just ridiculous. You are not tearing up a ramp, washing bank, or causing law enforcement to be on the water to enforce speed regs.
There is no excuse for not letting people canoe for free.
RE: IN Resident Hunting/Fishing License Info
Might want to double check the Permit Sticker Requirements. I am not so sure that a canoe or kayak has to have the sticker unless it's powered by a motor of some kind. But then I could be wrong on this one.
But I agree they should not have to pay for a sticker just to use a canoe! Just my two cents.
I know that I have to have one for my boat. I guess they expired from last year. So I guess I need to order one before I go up to Patoka Lake this winter or this coming spring, summer and fall.
I got my hunting license the other day. I am good to hunt until they expire on March 31st 2007 at midnight.
I am tempted to put some camo on my bass boat and throw a few duck or geese decoys in the boat and go out and do some waterfowl hunting.
This weather sure if for the birds!
RE: IN Resident Hunting/Fishing License Info
Well I was wrong above. Canoes do need the Lake Permit on some lakes in IN.
Sorry to cause any confusion.
Here is a link I found after searching the IDNR web site for a while. Seem the the Lake Permit FAQ web site was down when I tried to access it this afternoon. I keep getting one of them 404 error messages.
But I finally found this link below:

RE: Check with the Law Enforcement Division
What kind of plan are you looking at for $70????
I have Verizon Wireless. 450 anytime minutes, with all the perks, free Verizon to Verizon, free nights and weekends, blah blah blah, it is only $39.99/month
On average I use 1600-1800 minutes a month, and never once have even come close to using up the 450, it helps most people I know also have Verizon.
You might want to check with another Verizon dealer, the rates/specials vary from one to the next
RE: IN Resident Hunting/Fishing License Info
I am confused? On my license it says (( Valid period 04/01/2006-03/31/2007 )) Mine is a res.Hunt/Fish ???
Don't know how this thread got to launch permits? But it is NOT a perfect system. I live 70 miles to the rearest ramp that I would need to have to use this permit. An on line site I am a member of have fishing/camping outings across Indiana a few times a year, and Patoka has become a favorite for the spring outing. I didnt mind paying the $5.00 for the daily use, but I never used it again in a year. If the mooring guys are who the State wants to get ,well when they check a boat on the lake it should have to have a yearly permit or a daily permit for that day or get the ticket.Heck I even went to Summit once and buying that daily permit was no problem, but this new ruling bites! What $2.50 a gal gas isn't bad enought bite on our wallets! Way to much water in my area 100's of lakes with-in 70 miles for me to buy a yearly permit so I don't plan on fishing these waters. I like to visit different parts of the State like a lot of you do, but I won't buy food, gas, hotels, camping at Patoka, Monroe, Summit,Brookville like I have in the past You guys are right to say it's no problem if you live near these waterways and use them several times a year.
