Charger and Battery Question
Maybe someone can help me....
I have a 2 bank charger... one lead goes to my starting battery... the other to one of my two trolling motror batteries. Here is the question... can i hook one lead of my charger to my both my trolling motor batteries if i run them in series or parallel (its a12v system and im not sure if i should run them in series or parallel) and have them both charged? Its been perplexing me since I got the boat.... any help would be appreciated.
Keep on chuckin'
Re: Charger and Battery Question
Personally I would take the lead off of the starting battery and run it to the other trolling battery. At least, that's what I do. Your outboard should charge the starting battery. I have never had to charge my starting battery on any boats that I have owned.
As far as your question---I am sure you can do it, but you will be splitting the amount of amps between batteries and it can take twice as long to charge them up. Can't remember off hand if you want to do that in series or in paralell???
Re: Charger and Battery Question
If your batteries are wired for 12V, the single bank will keep them both charged. It may not be as quick as two banks, but keeping your starting battery charged is important between trips.
