Yeah boy and they are soaking in salt water ....Man the females already had eggs !!! this is not the norm ....they usually spawn mid Feb. maybe we are in for a early winter

That's an understatement jay ,it was a real b lol wind like to beat me to death. I managed one small blue in the mid 20s and a flat around 15 that eat a very big piece of bait. Certainly wasn't a day on the river for the faint of heart.

I fished upriver yesterday. Getting back to Duffy's landing was a bear. Nothing like a strong west wind against current. Was worth it though. Caught a limit of crappie in 3 hrs. Also starting to catch a lot of skip Jacks on jigs for you cat fisherman out there
That's something I would like to learn to do, crappie fish the river. I've caught them before, but only limited once or twice on a pile of sunken sticks with some small brush that got stuck with in the sticks. Then before I knew it, the whole pile was washed away with high water. There went my crappie spot ! Lol. I have done well on crappie down river in some of the creeks, but not on the upper pool so much. If I figured crappie out on the river, I'd never go to Rough River again. I love catching those big black crappie. Nice to hear someone has got their number. Good luck and stay safe.

I start crappie fishing in Nov and continue through the winter. I bass fish the rest of the year. I tend to crappie fish where I've caught slabs while bass fishing and go from there. I'm still learning a lot too. I've learned enough to know that I'm not wasting anymore gas chasing crappies anywhere else for the most part. I do better here at home. And I don't get too much company on the river. I'd lime to catch some of those hybrids too, and I'm ready for some toothy fish
I'd be willing to make a trade off. I can show/tell you what I know about the hybrids and stripers. I am well practiced catching them from the spring through early fall. I know the lower pool pretty well and what water conditions work. I've been at it for 20 years now. The sauger on the other hand, well lets say I'm getting better. I've fished for them for about the last 5 years, learning every trip out. I have a couple boats and would be willing to show you what I know, toomanycasts. I would like to learn more about crappie on the river. I'm open to showing you first hand in the spring, till then I'm willing to share anything that works for me on the sauger. I'm looking forward to more good days of catching those toothy critters. PM me if I can help.
Go find or order you some whistler jigheads, fireball jigheads, or chartreuese roadrunner heads. Learn how to tie a stinger hook. The whistlers and fireball heads really take a 3" stinger well. On the kentucky river, we have been having a great time with the sauger.

Where at on the Kentucky river if you don't mind me asking? I just moved to Frankfort and live about a quarter mile from this river but aren't sure if any places where I may find sauger. Really don't wanna drive all the way up to the Ohio river. Any suggestions?
