FNF 3-way rig versus wrapped bobber...

I told my buddy Cliff last weekend that I may try a barrel swivel and tie the fireline to one side and leader to the other but I was thinking of hooking the bobber also on the fire line side of the swivel as well. From time to time, WHEN I WOULD GET LAZY AND CAST SIDE ARMED NOT OVERHAND, I would get the swivel wrapped up on both lines. With the barrel swivel, I would still get to use the fireline, still not wrap the bobber at all, and get to hook the bobber straight to the swivel as well for the action of the bobber is better on the swivel instead of wrapping the bobber. I will try my above system this weekend and see if it works. I would bet if a 6 pounder or better comes in the boat, the "Elnut-Rig" will be born.

Barrel swivel may work well. May have to match the weight up with the weight of the 3way....

Creeks - no swivel due to ever-changing depth. Wrap line twice around bottom of modified bobber, cast, and hang-on.

Big water - 3 way swivel.

Like the barrel swivel idea with the braided mainline.

Caught 34 smallies out of creek that drains less than 50 square miles last Saturday. Rolled a full house on the biggest 5 - 18's over 17's.

A slip float causes too much tension on the jig and it will not sink. It is not heavy enough to sink with a slip float.. PLUS IF the jig does make it down.. each time you work the bobber it will scootch up shallower each time taking the bait out of the strike zone.
TRUST the experts.. 3 way swivel is the way to go.

I would like to weigh in on the FnF rig. I'm a beginner have a few fly's bobbers and swivels. Does the main line have to be smaller diameter too? If it's that far from the bobber I wouldn't think it would matter. Also with florocarbon is the smaller diameter nessasary?
Tried the fly at Frymans this morning but stayed with jig mostly, but no fish. Temps were 41-45 creek was clear a nice day to be out just a little windy, overcast probably would've helped the bight.

Why does the main line diameter matter if it is so far from the jig?
Is 8lb flouro too much?
Tried the fly on Stoner this morning with no luck no luck on jig either, nice to be out though.
The temps were 41-45 a little windy lots of sun.

yes yes yes thats 3 yes,s for the 3 ring swivel-good call Jim its the only way to go--plus it will load up better for makeing that long cast seems that way to me...gl to all who learns that fnf fishing..

3 way swivel, definitely. I also like 10 lb. Power Pro braid to the F C Sniper for a leader. Will not go wrong.

I will be trying all kinds of stuff this coming week at Dale for FNF is the only thing I have ever done there in December plus a little Silver Buddy action on the side. I hope the suntan lotion does not get on my baits and I am really worried about the Jet Skis and Houseboats messing up my honey holes. I see every bait in my box tied on at least once over the 5 day period and that still might not be enough. Then again, the old faithful 1/8 or 1/4 oz jig may be the only bait I throw all week, who knows. Better than work

I found a pack of Bass Pro black 3 ways that I had bought last yr. When I bought them they looked real good. I likes the black. But the were a lot heavier that the regular 3 ways that I used. It made my bobber to light for the weight. So I put them up.
I ended up cutting on of the eyes off all of them and well try them for this 2way process.

The only thing I see that could possibly be a problem it that the bobber "clip" will now be in contact with one of the 2 knots. Maybe something to worry about...May not...

The lighter the line you use the further you can cast. This only matters in CLEAR water lakes like Dale Hollow and Cumberland... Fish in 10 to 12 feet of water can see you if you are too close so you need to cast from further away to fish for them.
Power pro in 8 pound diameter 30 pound test casts good, but power pro in 1 pound diameter with 6 pound test casts MUCH further. I tried it with Bob last week and the difference is IMMENSE in casting distance.
It is the friction of the line comeing off the reel and going through the guides that lets you cast sooooo much further.
