Re: There goes my donation!
You are 100% right. The school system is a joke. I heard a something on the radio a few years ago that when they took the 10 commandments out of school, that there was something like 20 negative things that went up. There were teen pregnancy, drop out rate, attendance dropped, drug use among teens went up, just to name a few.
Politics are getting in the way of what needs to be done. They are so worried about hurting someone's feelings, getting bad press and then not getting re-elected. Instead of saying keep your kids in school, it is not the teachers fault that the child dropped out of school or got arrested. Stay home and raise the baby and act like the parent should and not letting the child raise him/her self while you are out getting high and making another baby.
Bring back basic religion in schools hold kids responsible for their actions and blame everyone else but what the problem. They also need to hold the schools accountable. My wife has worked with other teachers that have cussed often while in the classroom, speak nothing but, slang and could not teach what so ever. But, they enough tenure and seniority that it would take the system 3-4 years to fire them and cost the school board a pile of cash. Instead they let them stay.
In most of our schools we have to provide a police officer to be assigned to that school. Because it cuts down on the number of runs we have to make. It was easer to put an officer there full time to handle the situation as they arise. Than to dispatch an officer. Talking with some of my friends that are that are school resources officers they have arrested over 70 kids in a school year. I'm sorry they weren't arrested they were taken into custody for stealing a car. We can't say arrested when dealing with a juvenile it hurt their self esteem. SORRY FOR THE RANT!
Re: There goes my donation!
I was truly amazed at Schools in KY. having Police Officer's stationed in them during the day. I moved to KY 16 years ago from Indiana and never ever heard of Police being required to be stationed at a School.
If kids mess up and deserve a paddling by the Principle or a teacher then it should be done. Parents wouldn't object for disciplining their kids if the situation called for it. At least where I came from in Indiana parents didn't mind, they applauded the teachers and Principles for helping control their kids and keep them in line while not under direct control of the parents.
That is what's wrong with today's society, The punishment was taken away from the people in charge at the schools. If the situation could not be handled by those in charge of the school, then by all means call the Law and let them handle the ones who need more than 3 licks from a wooden paddle. I got my fair share from that wooden paddle during my time in school and believe me it made me a better person and to respect those in charge of the Schools I attended.
Re: There goes my donation!
Bleeding heart social workers and others who see that spanking is child abuse have caused this problem in our schools. When I was in school if you did wrong you got licks from a paddle and they were not soft but it was far from abuse and I respected my teachers for this, also my grandfather was on the school board and all the teachers knew my family so if I misbehaved I had it coming. There is a big difference in child abuse and correcting bad behavior, if teachers were allowed to disapline like they did then then we would not need cops in the schools. And now I see it everywhere that children are not being corrected and talking back to adults etc. To me not proprelly disaplining children is child abuse as it can teach them that if rules are broke then so what. Children are our future and they need to learn right and wrong and also need to learn that if you break the rules it can hurt a little, a time out is not punishment to me when a 15 or 16 yr old cusses out or threatens a teacher.
We are getting cruiser pretty quick, after 3-6 months in most cases. Which is pretty good. When I first came on it took almost 3 years to get one. The pay is not great. I heard that Lex PD has got some good raises the past few years. We just got a new 4 year deal and it is OK. The benefits are good but the pay is still way below other departments the size of LMPD. But as long as we have the same mayor we won't get much.
Given the economy, with the layoffs at Ford and G.E. my job looks pretty good.
As far as teachers are concerned they are not any better than we are. My wife was in the classroom for 10 years and has been the Librarian for 2. There is no way I would put up the garbage she does and she is in one of the nicer schools here in The Ville. A lot of officers are moving out of county so they can send their children to another school system other than Jefferson Co.
What do you do? Teach the kids right from wrong and take them fishing and pray that they get hooked on it instead of dope.
What a simple but absolutely correct way of putting it. That last phrase says it all.
Re: There goes my donation!
I still stick with what I say. These hundreds of illegals were invisible to local police?About the gangs, Why are the offenders just passed off, because there isn't enough money to jail them, and bus farew costs too much to ship em backSo we enforce on the cheap. The latino gangs are funded by illegal operations out side this country, if they were arabs we'd be be busting thier chops, maybe.I have a son who's a school teacher, a niece also. One of my brothjer in laws is a cop in chicago, and its hands off on asking for citizen status, thats profiling.Profiling is NOT bad, its common sense. Another thing, I have seen a lot of speedersd pulled over in this area, and almost all of them are in state plates, while the tourists zip by.My jaundiced view is not changing!
Re: There goes my donation!
Sorry LarryG if I see a tourist I will pull them over because they are lost and probably going to get hurt for being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
I do not have the legal right to arrest someone because they are an illegal immigrant, nor because they are in a gang. If they break the state law then I can arrest them.
I also think you missed the point I was making about speeders. I try to worry about the more serious crimes in our community.
Re: There goes my donation!
Oh I guess crossing our countrys border isn't serious?Again I say what waslocal law enforcement doing when over 300 law breakers were roaming around free in that city? Some one told them to keep thier hands off them, and now we have a humanitarian crisis. Following your reasoning, maybe its possible to be just "a little" pregnant.
Re: There goes my donation!
I'm sorry about the doughnut thing, I have a high regard for most police officers, like I said got a brother in law doing it, and hesclose to having his pension. But these guys who are condoning illegal hiring are not cops, and some elected official has his hand being greased.Do you think I'm the only one wondering why nothing is being done about this?Right now there are over 3000 iraqis trying to get visas to this country, because they put them selves at risk by working for us in iraq, they stand as much chance of getting here as a snow ball in ----.Mygrand parents migrated to this country, legaly, had sons who fought inWW11, and were wounded, grand kids who fought in korea, and viet nam, legal immigrants were drafted, but these illegals ones are out side the law.If one of them brings his family here, illegaly, and gets hurt on a job, does the guy who hired him help pay that familys expense? does the [politician who condones it take the money out his pocket to help? No its us. and I dont like it one bit.
Re: There goes my donation!
I agree that it is bad that they are here. But I still can not arrest them, deport them, or do anything to them because they are illegal. It is not against the laws here in KY to be and an illegal immigrant. Until that changes I will just wave and smile because legally that is all I can do. Anything else that I do will get me into Federal Court as a Defendant. Ryan
Re: There goes my donation!
I guess by now you all have seen the news on the Woman in San Francisco Cali.
The city is a declared "Safe haven" (another proper term escapes me) for illegals and now this one illegal killed her Husband and two Sons. I guess he was part of the mexican gang. That's the side of all this "I love everyone attitude" that these Politicians should be responsible for. I hope she sues the tie dyed pants off that city! Maybe it wil help get our ELECTED officials working for us again and not themselves. It's disgusting!
Re: There goes my donation!
The places that hire them and let them work under false names, false id's false ss# false everything should be the one's punished. When I lived in Florida several years ago, there were migret workers who were here on legal visa's, and went from grove to grove then when thet were done they went back to Mexico of Calf or Texas. They were here under work visa's and then left. Then the Gov I think Regan stopped this program and now we are flooded with them. You guys are right on DJD and Larry, this is a major concern and they are overly protected by bleeding hearts, the Catholic church and corrupt gov officals. They are also protecteed by this state as I can not report them due to the Civil rights act. The gangs are the worst there is out there, even the black LA gangs like the Krips and Bloods are now trying to just protect their neighborhoods from tese gangs, they are setting up neighbor hood watch programs to protect the citizens from these bloodthristy gangs. These gangs should be considered terrosits and not protected.
Re: There goes my donation!
Almost all gangs are now working together. If you have a product that can help or give benefit to the gang they will do business with another "rival gang." When in years past they would not associate with them. They are getting smarter and smarter all the time. They are forcing their members to go to college, to get degrees or learn in business, real estate, tax law, criminal law. So they can better hide and launder their money. They are also forcing them to join the military so they can learn more about combat and weapons. It is not just the Mexicans gangs, but all the gangs.
They are also finding that military families, the ones that are coming from the west coast or larger cities who's kids are in gangs; are bringing that life style to smaller towns, when mom or dad are shipped to a new base. They are recruiting new members and are doing the same stuff that that they are doing in larger cities.
