Re: Auto bail out
My dad always told me: "Boy you got yourself in this mess now you can get yourself out."
I will continue supporting GM as I have done all of my adult life, at least until I am forced to make another choice, but not with any handouts, bailouts, "loans", or whatever else the Big 3 are now referring to it as. And then I heard they (U.A.W.) have the gall to say if the government goes on vacation without addressing the issue then the government will be to blame for the consequences????? What the heck?????
You nailed the problem..Unions. They are worse than the Gubment when it comes to doing what they want and strong arming companies. So now they are going to strong arm the rest of us. I say let the whole thing suffer and get rid of these crooks. The better companies will rise to the top.
I think they left yesterday without a bailout approval. They are just waiting for Barry to throw his weight around.JMO

Re: Auto bail out
Did you boys see where all the big three top dogs flew to Washington in their private jets at the tune of over 20 thousand dollars a piece. First class on a regular airline would have been about 800 dollars. To HELL WITH ALL OF THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! One senator asked the Ford guy how many homeless people do you know that show up at food shelters begging for food in a top hat and tuxedo. I say let'em sink like concrete block!!

Yeah the heck with these entitled executives. The Unions won't budge so why should we?
Look, I can see both sides(as much as my brain can deal with:)) and the alot of workers are going to get screwed either way. I feel for the men and women whose lives are being played with by terrible decisions of upper management. So fire the bigdogs, take their pensions or reduce them to a comparable level of an average workers and start over. If they get any help at all it should be with STRICT regulations and STRICT timelines on a payback with interest. Not one person should get a bonus and the unions should have to **** up sme of the pain.
I would like to see the UAW get some bad press over this. I hope the story goes that way before it's over!!! Just a bunch of legal pirates!!!

Re: Auto bail out
As everyone knows, back in the day the unions were needed...this is DEFINITELY not the case anymore. I've never worked for any union, all I have is a high school education and I'm making it just fine.
I'm wondering if we're seeing another revolution taking place right here, right now...kind of like back in the 60's...bank bailouts, unions whining: "Please help us too!", a black president, maybe all this should be saved for an entirely different thread.

Yeah, those guys are morons. Seriously your asking for financial help and you fly in on a private jet? One senator ask why didn't they all "jet pool" in together, "jet pool" thats comedy right there.
One of the big wigs said he would work for a $1.00 and another was asked if he would, he danced around the question like a cat on a hot tin roof, finally saying he was fine where he was at.
I was leaning toward helping them out to begin with because so many other parts manufactures were going to be hurt but I'm totally soured on the idea now.

Re: Auto bail out
I say let the rich ***' come down to earth and live off of a pay check like mine. Let us common folk have a vote on them getting bailed out or not.
I vote NOT!

Re: Auto bail out
It's not a Bail Out...It's a Loan for the Auto Industries......:) I'd rather keep Ford, GM's and Chrysler above water before I'd keep Toyota, Nissan or any other Foreign owned Auto Company from going under.......Think about this people...The Top 3 Auto Companies keep the dollars spent on their products here in the USA...The dollars earned by Foreign Auto Companies goes oversea's to NON-American Companies......:(

Re: Auto bail out
True but something like $60mil is what I hear for a CEO and the other perks. I think they need to tighten up a bit. I do not want to see anyone out of work. Sometimes you have to trim the fat. Let them trim. Paying to put their names on buildings, tv stars advertiseing for them. Privet jets and who knows what else? That's all im saying.
And with our government. We need to stop trying to buy love from countries that could care less about us and let us use that money at home in the US.

Tell it Brother Tell it!!!!!!! Buick alone (GM) was paying that Tiger Woods like 18 million dollars to do their stupid commercials. When I see the Fat Cats start to ligitimately give up their extravagent wealth and make concessions and these criminal Unions give some then I might be willing to at least listen.
Lee Iacocca worked for a dollar until Chrysler got back on it's feet and he seen that the government got payed back every dime.
The big three leaders now couldn't carry that man's brief case. He is a bigtime conservative will old fashioned hard work values and ethics. The three are saw and listened to at those talks were greedy no count SOB'S. I'll say it again to Hell with'em and let the lesson be learned for future generations it's the only way this decadence will ever stop. FIRE'EM ALL AND LET GOD SORT'EM OUT!!!!!

Re: Auto bail out
Well from the looks of the News reports on what the 3 Major Auto makers are going to do to trim the fat as you say.....Looks like Ford's CEO is going to work for $ 1.00 for every year the Loan is made for the contract. All the jets are being stored, cleaned and sold, plus other items will be sold off to help retool the companies.

Re: Auto bail out
OK we dont bail them out! how much will each person living in an auto producing state be taved for unemployment insurance? When half the dealerships close, who pays the property taxes that support schools, and civil services? This is a lose lose situation.About half the retired auto workers will go onto ERISA, who pays that? those with young familys, will lose many health benefits, who will pay that? Its cheaper in the long run to loan them the money, and charge a small interest to do it, that way the politicians can add more benefits to their substantial packages they already get.Wake up, all the states are lining up for bail outs, citing poor economic situations, will dening a bail out help? And when the american car industry goes under, where will the competion stopat price gouging?Sure bail outs ****, we dont get any, but we will pay more for not doing it.I worked at a ford assembly plant for almost two weeks when I just turned 18, it was like a gulag when you're starting out. Opted for a nice dirty steel mill job instead.Of course the steel mills are almost all gone, owned by other counties, my cousin was laid off as an iron worker, because they couldn't get steel two years ago.
