Re: Fishing Gear
"their prices are high because of people like me who shop online?" Please...... prices outrageous??? i havent found a local bait shop with outrageous prices, sure a lil higher becuase they might sell 100 - 200 a year compared to 1000-2000 on tacklewarehouse... soo do the math... they can sell it for a lil less and still come out to the good. The bigger places dont give a crap if they sell anything or not there already rich!!! On the other hand a local boy will have a smile on his face all day because he made some money for him or his family and got to sell some baits to a fellow fisherman. Just my thoughts about! A good example would be Dale hollow one stop.. Family run and operated.... but without customers he couldny stay in buisness.
You have to look at what you are calling "local", and to give you a prime example around KY Lake you can get a bag of zoom baby brush hogs for $4.99 at one place, $4.29 at another, $3.99 and $3.79 at others, yet I have bought at BPS for $2.99 or $3.29. So if I am paying $1.70 more for a bag - I can see where it would seem "outrageous pricing", I support local as much as I can and don't mind paying a little more for a single bag of baits as I need them, but, if I am stocking up in the spring I am going to get the most bang for my buck (I spend at least $400-$500 in one whack every spring). It is nothing now to drop $50-60 bucks at a local retailer for a mere hand full of baits, and I do know of a tackle store that literally had a 100% mark-up on baits!!! I own a business and I know the value of supporting local business and I love mom and pop shops! But the root of this post is where to go because there are a lot of baits you just can't find locally and where's the best deals.
