Do you EVEN watch or read the article. A person, went up asked to be on the program, and without any documentation was able to get not 1 , not 2 but 3 free obama phones.
And yea, they are OBAMA PHONES because in 2008 he changed the law to allow cell phones to be issued.
The land lines can be called REAGAN phones all you want.......and for 18 years, if you called them that I'd be fine with it, but you know what. Under Reagan the program was scrutinized, and you actually had to prove need, before SCREWING the gubment out of money.
Oh, and the douchebag woman saying it is not a "federal" program is total BS. Anyone who PAYS for a cell phone pays a 3 or 4 dollar tax to pay for those free Obama Phones. Nothing like sharing the wealth.

Haha I don't blame you. I'm not saying that I don't think some of what you say is correct, but I just can't get over how you and individuals like you just blame Obama. Sure, he has done plenty of things wrong and has blame at his feet. Unfortunately, when things go wrong for people, they always blame the other side. In reality, Obama and all of D.C., as well as those who came before them, and each of us are to blame. We have a crazy spending habit as Americans, and this is nothing new. It isn't just the Republicans' fault or Liberals' fault that we have a deficit, yet still spend money out the butt for all kinds of stupid things. We have put ourselves into this position and the "it's his/her fault" situation by all of the morons we have elected and what we have allowed our government to become. Obama isn't destroying America. Americans are destroying America. It is time to wake up and stop pointing fingers and do something besides vote for this Republican or this Democrat politician that says they will change things. They won't change things, because they are politicians and have unfortunately lost touch with reality while sitting in their comfy chairs. If there were no incentives to become a politician (thus it being an ACTUAL public servant), we wouldn't have a lot of the problems we have. People with intelligence could actually help the situation. Blame Americans (all of us) for the situations we are in today, because that is reality.

It’s true that low income people get government issued cell phones. It’s not true that the government issued cell phone program started when President Obama was elected. Calling them Obama phones is a misnomer.
The program was started in 1996 when Bill Clinton was president and was continued under George Bush. It was originally started to help low income people pay for land lines, but as cell phones became more popular and cheaper during the Bush administration, it only made sense to provide the poor with cell phones.
These phones provide the poor – many of whom are seniors and veterans – with the means to access emergency care and job opportunities.
Some people will continue to snidely call them “Obama phones,” but that’s because they have no empathy for the poor and want to criticize President Obama.

If I don't get my free phone, I will ask my good friend BO to contact the IRS who not only has control over your finances, he has control over your health care. So if you guys know what's best for you, you will allow me to have my free phone, along with my free health care, you know, the health care system the congress wants to have. I will get what's mine because I deserve it and I got a guy in power that will make sure I will get it in the end. :rolleyes: :D ;)

Government assistance for LAND LINE phone service to welfare recipients and people on certain other government programs started with Clinton and continued through Bush.
CELL PHONES began being issued in 2008. Fact, according to the article.
President Obama took office in 2008. Fact.
So should they be called Obama phones?
Should the NSA listen in on them to make sure they're only used for emergency purposes?
If you get a government sponsored phone, but vote straight ticket Republican will the IRS come after you?
I don't know, these question are all to tough for me.
Maybe President Obama will go on a popular late night comedy show and tell us the answers.

Limit the program to ONLY phone service. No data, no text, no NOTHING but phone service, and I am probably OK with it.
And then stop using every service provider. Make them compete based on price. The current program simply hands out phones to anyone and the providers have all the incentive in the world to PUSH them, because good ole uncle sam pays for them.
