Braided line & topwater???

After using braided line with fnf and various other things, I got to thinking. Would braided be better to use with topwater? It has no strecth really and it floats. I would say you could get a lil more action out of the bait also.Just really a thinkin cause Im always trapped at work with fishin on the brain and customers to help..lol .. All i can do to cure the fever is to talk about it and buy stuff.lol but that only helps a lil. IM dying to get back out there and go fnf fishin again. Was doing good at dale hollow and then have not got a chance to go back. Anyway, what do you guys think about the braided line thing, and If you was going to use it what kind do you recommend?

i don't use braid tried it didn't like it,probably didn't use it long enough to like it,i would think it may not be good for topwater,it seems to sink easy because of the small diameter,you would have to use a very soft rod since there is no stretch i would think since they are already on top it would be even easier for them to throw the lure but i really couldn't say for sure.

I wouldn't. No stretch, too visible to name a couple of reasons.

The only time i use braid for topwater is when i'm fishing slop and muck with frogs, other than that i use mono----14-17 pound test. I have also found that if you want to cast HARD at some schooling fish that are just within your casting distance you would want mono. Braid has a tendency to fight you when you want that distance. Mono has always been easier for me to cast hard and far with no threat of a backlash. I use to fish braid when throwing buzzbaits and lost to many fish because there was no stretch. Good luck!

I use fireline on my creek rod and throw a lot of topwater stuff. No problems at all. Given the thinner diameter, you'll get longer distance casts. You do have to watch setting the hook too soon. I also use fireline on a couple of surf rods. Have used plenty of topwater plugs on them fishing for stripers in the surf and in tailwater areas.

Yea but you have an unfair advantage Andrew, because you have those magic and WONDER baits, LOL.

I have used fireline for stripes in the tailwaters, both on top and deep and found it works well do to the small diameter and strength. Long cast are a must.

Only time I use braid is at Guntersville fishing the grass mats in the late fall. Take my Falcon Lizard Dragger, spool up a Lews BB1ng with 14/60 braid, tie on a frog, and get down to bidness.

I like it for Stripers because of the long casts and strength. I don't really use it topwater for bass so I couldn't say. I like fireline.

I use it all the time, zarro spooks and sammys work fine, and you get far longer casts and better hook sets when you are a long way from the fish, the bait reaction is quicker, and the small dia. works to hide the line, my favorites are either spider stealth, or power pro 20/6
