    FnF question

Instead of using the small plastic bobbers, can you substitute those with a small slip bobber/bobber stop? I use the slip rig for panfish and was wondering if you could do the same for FnF? Using a slip bobber would eliminate the need for a 9ft rod, and swivels etc. I'm just wondering if I could get away with using my existing UL gear? I've never fished a FnF rig before, so any input would be appreciated...

I use a 7' BPS rod with a Shimano Curado B5 Baitcaster, spooled with 20 pound test Big Game and a 1 ounce rattling Jig with a big pork trailer. It works too.

    Re: FnF question

It can be done if the fly has enough weight to pull the line thru the float. I have a friend that fished with a 6 1/2 ft rod and caught plenty of fish with the float and fly (wrapped around the float). Its a little harder to cast but it can be done. You would be suprised how many big smallmouths he caught with it set at 6-8 ft instead of the 10-12 you usually hear about. He landed 20+ lbs stripers on the smame rig. 8 lb xl or floro.
