lowrance 527c go with color it is better in the sun 699.00. Hummingbird even the new ones with side view are fogging up, problems with the rubber seal.
I agree with Matt about www.Humminbird.com and their new depth finders.
In fact I am still using a Humminbird LCR 800 Which I purchased back in 1986. I use it along with my handheld GPS from Garmin to find my fishing spots. These two units together are all I need. But it would be really nice to have on of the new humminbird sidescanning sonar units. These are the bomb. Humminbird has taken the lead in the retail depth finders with these new units. In fact humminbird has had the best most advanced depth finders for a long time IMHO. They had three dimential depth finders for a while now.
As for as humminbirds service, I see it as very good. You can send in an old nonworking unit and get it fixed for a reasonable price and get a new refurbished unit back in no time at all.
