I saw this setup at Walmart selling for under $40. I almost bought it but I already have three fishing scales. Two digital and one mechanical Spring type (De-liar Scale).
The only way to test your digital scales is to get hold of some Certified "Class S" weights and test your scales against the certified weights. Or you can find a scale that's already been tested against Class S certified weights and compare your scales to the other scale with the same weight.
Test your scales though out it's range of operation. IE put on 1 lb weight and a 5 lb weight and see how the scales reads. Then ad a few ounces to each of those two weights to get a weight of 1lb 3 oz or 5lb 3 oz and see if the scales read these weights accurately
Your scales may not read the very same as the ones used at the tournament weigh in but they will help you cull your fish.
I wish that all tournaments would keep the fish in water during the entire weigh in. I've noticed that some of the Larger Bass Tournaments on TV are now practicing this method of weighing the fish.
They weight out a container filled with water and them tare that weight to zero and then add the fish to the container. As long as the water is not splashed out the extra weight will be the weight of the fish added to the container. This keeps the fish in the water the entire time and ensures a much better survival of the fish. As long as the fish are not disturbed more than necessary and their slime coat is intact and they get plenty of dissolved oxygen while in captivity they should be OK when released back into the lake. This really should help the fishery for that lake. Too many bass in the past have died as a result of being caught and mishandled during a tournament and then released only to die a week later from infections. This is another good reason to not have tournaments during the hot summer months when there is little or no DO in the water and the fish are being drug up from the deeper water into the hot surface waters. Fish will die from the Bend when you do this. I've seen some nice 6lb bass that could not take this treatment while the 4 lb bass survived the live well and were still alive at the weigh in. Not sure if they survived after they were released but they probably did as they were caught in shallow water. They were all caught in the morning when the fish spend more time in shallow water due to low light conditions. But after the sun comes up and gets high in the sky the fish go deeper during the summer.

I agree Moose, if at all possible I believe all Tournaments need to go to this new setup to help the Bass live longer.![]()
