    Question your opinion, about Barren

With the drought this year and the lake staying as low as it has do you think the added vegetation will improve next years bass fishing, there are small trees growing on the east side of the bridge on 31E at Skaggs Creek and on Coon Creek as well I have not been out to much due to the heat and my kidney meds won't allow prolonged exposure to high temps. But some of the guys I know said they saw alot of saplings growing. I would think with the new cover we should have a bumper hatch and in three years we should see some really good keepers showing up from next years hatch and some this years class should have a great forage base not just from the shad, but crawfish and other bait fish as well. So what do you folks think, Barrens been warm but with as many creeks feeding it it has a good O2 levels. so what are your predictions

From what I've seen of the lake, it sure looks like all the small Bass Fry should have plenty of cover to grow. PLus with all the growth that should still be there next year when the lake comes back up will be good as well. More places for the bass to spawn and fry to forage in. I like this lake, but not as much as Nolin, yet.

This lake has had low water several times in the last 4 or 5 years. Each time the grass has come up.. This lake should be putting out great bass for years to come thanks to this pattern of slow rising water and grass growing, helping to fertilize the lake.

Jim and MsgMills hit the nail on the head. The growth will help keep the lake fertile, provide better spawning habitat, and provide cover and forage for fry.

MsgMills, another trip or two of actually fishing and not mainly getting to know the lake, and I'll change your mind forever about Nolin. Not knocking Nolin, but it doesn't compare to Barren. Give me a holler when you can get back down.
