Did you ever stop to think that a lot of the sensitivity you feel comes through your rod. All a reel is, is a winch to retrieve your line.......I'd put my money on the rod, not the reel.......

yes there are rods for a single pupose, like when i trolled the great lakes, downrigger rods were necessary, but those rods came in all kinds of prices, yes there was a time when I had more dollars than sence, never thouight those good ole days would end, but they did, sold those rods at a fraction of what they cost. Moved here to the cumberland area, and wanted to start again, but this time, wentr practical. Manual instead of electric riggers, penn reels and ugly sticks, work just fine.

I liked a very firm rod Im glad I lost that med hvy
I guess I am just highly a finesse fisherman that depends on feel. Some techniques are not that dependent on feel but many (such as jig fishing) are. The rod is the main element if you need/want to feel the lure and what is going on with it and the quality of the rod makes a huge difference. I used to have the same mindset (save a buck) but after having my butt handed to me on a platter on the water so-to-speak I have changed my priorities.
Wow! Did not imagine this would draw this much feedback. So I guess I am looking for something 6-6 1/2 foot, medium action. I have a couple Shimano Convergence rods, but I figured they were too stiff.
Two words- Instant Fisherman... LOL
Let's

I am not saying go cheap on the rod. But I promise a day on the lake with a cheap reel is not fun. There is a difference in a $50 rod and $300 rod, but there is a much bigger difference in the quality and performance of a $30 reel and $100 reel. On your worm and jig rods -a sensitive rod is a must - sometimes it will be a very tiny peck - but this was jerkbait post - and I have never felt a tiny peck on a jerkbait - I don't think a G loomis will feel more hits on jerkbait or crankbait than $30 or $50 BPS rod.
