Just watched the show I taped from Saturday and was very interested in the rubber bands he was using on his baits to keep them on the hook. Does anyone know what type of rubber bands they were and where to get them?
Also I have attemped to tie on a drop shot hook but keep getting it wrong so I have given up. Does anyone know a easy way to tie on a hook used for dropshotting?

i have used bands before to hold senkos and other worms for wacky rigging and what we used were o-rings i got from work. you just slide the o-ring over the worm and run the hook under the 0-ring instead of inserting it into the worm. i think they now sell them at BPS and a tool to slide them on the worm.

on the drop shot i have always used a polamar knot with a long tag end to attatch the weight. GL

The o-rings will not work for what Shaw was doing. I don't think you'll be able to double them like the rubber band and just once will not hold. The rubber bands he was using appeared to be the type that are used for braces. And I mean the brace's people have on their teeth.

On drop shots, tie a palomar knot with a long (however long you want the weight below the hook). Then take the tag end back around and run it back through the eye of the hook. This makes it stand out straight from the line.

When tieing on the drop shot hook, the palomar knot it correct with a long leader that your weight it attached. One of the keys to tieing it is to take the end of your line thru the eye of your hook to start with on the same side as the hook point. This means you will have your loop on the backside of the eye, on the backside of the hookpoint. Make sure you have a long enough leader for this is the distance your weight will be from your bait. Tie your knot then bring the tag end up and down thru the hook eye again, then attach your weight. The hook should stand straight out. Google Drop Shot and you will find pictures of the rig on Bass Resource as well.

I've used the rubberbands for braces before on senkos. It sure makes them last a lot longer and hook up ratio seemed about the same. I'll be sure to try that tip from Shaw the next time I hook any worm on.

Where do you get these "rubberbands for braces" at? I have heard of them being used before but I have not seen or know from where they may be purchased. Thanks to all for the information.

For those of you that didn't see Shaw was putting the rubberband around the head of the worm where it's on the offshank part.
