Smile Ramblings of an old coot

A couple of minutes ago, I just got finished playing 331/3 record, any one rember those? Yep my two favorites Frank Sinatra It was a very good year, and barbra[not walters] Memorys. But I got boxes of those old goodies. This sony sound system was #1 in its days, three speed recoerd changer, even played tapes. What was funny is this one was given to me, by my parish priest, because he got a newer one. A few days later, we were talking, this was about 3 months after my widfe died, and he asked me how did I like it. Feeling in a cantankerous mood, like some of us codgers get, i told him " great music to end it all", the look on his face was unforgetable[another oldie], but then i assurewd him it was my warped humour, and he said he figured that using the old axiom no good dead goes unpunished. But man I fished before spinner baits, and rapalas were a guarded secret. Then came the ultimate the doll fly.Two colors, first time I used one was in center lake when it was very young. But enough of this.not drooling yet, still wearing under wear instead of depends, so I'm going to go out and charge the battery, and go to the river tommorow.

Ah yes, picking up the stylus to blow the dustball off the needle...splurging to buy a new needle at the record store when it got dull...

Best kept secret in music today is that CD sound doesn't come close to matching the sound quality of those old 33 and 1/3s and 45s...

Man, now you're talking. Mine are more Pop/R&B from 60s and 70s..Temptations, Earth Wind and Fire, James Taylor, and of course the mandatory Peter Frampton Frampton Comes Alive, which as Mike Myers said, you got issued if you lived in the suburbs.

My brother inl law right afterhe got out of the service bought himself a juke box, and 67 chevy almost new, this guy was a rock n rollnut. Our plant manager collected juke boxes, rigfht now those things are worth a fortune.I just wasted away my life collecting hot baits and fishing tackle, gee wish I had saved those boxes from helin and creek chub, I could afford all the gasoline i wanted.

Amen to that. Larry and I don't often agree on politics (LOL) but Larry I appreciate the level-headedness, civility and maturity your posts have.

My mother died recently and I have been going through her stuff, sorting, and packing it up. I found a ton of old 45's and a few 33's, some of which have never been opened. They are rock & roll, country, gospel, blues, easy listening, etc. I've located the record player and plan to see if it works on my next trip to the house. Now that is REAL music; no beating on guitars but real playing; piano music thats' rich like the finest wine; no incoherent ramblings; no screaming RAP; just good music. Ahhh! Those were the days.

Aint it cool to be taken back mentally to the good ole days. I've been told by many a person that I should have been born a hundred years ago, lol. I like alot of diffrent music but the stuff of today is pale in comparison to that of yester year. I still get a tear in my eye when I hear Louie Armstrong sing ''What a Wonderful World". Thanks for this post it reminded me of my father, He's probably listening to some George Jones up in Heaven.
