    C-river Fishing Report

I Just Got Back From An Amazing Day Of Fishing At The Wc Dam! I Arrived At The Dam Around 1:00pm And Was Pleased To See That They Were Still Not Generating. I Began The Day With A Egg And #18 Bh Copper John Under A Strike With 5x Flouro...basically The Egg Was For Attraction, And It Worked! I Caught Several Bows, 3-4 Of Them Were In The Slot. I Then Waded Across The River To The Adjacent Exposed Gravel Bar, Not Only To Try It Out, But To Escape The Line Of Bait Fisherman On The Other Bank! I Then Switched Away From The Egg, And Tied On A #16 Bh Red Pheasant Tail With The Same #18 Bh Dropper Under A Strike. Man Was That A Good Choice! They Went Nuts For The Red Bh Pheasant Tail! I Had A Moment Where I Caught 4 Bows In A Row That Were In The Slot...one Of Them Over, Measuring 22". A Beautiful Fish!
Around 5opm An Enormouse Black #22-#24 Midge Hatch Came On. The Fish Were Busting The Surface Everywhere! I Then Tied On A #22 Griffiths Gnat With 6x Flouro And Tore Them Up! At Around 7:00pm, The Corps Cranked Up One Generator So I Had To High-tail It Back To The Right Side Of The River Before I Got Washed Down Stream! I Then Tied On A Bh #8 Black Woolybugger With A #12 Bh Hares Ear Dropper And Swung In The High Current. I Caught 3-4 Doing This For An Hour...then The Corps Shut The One Generator Off, And It Was Back To Slaying 'em With The Griffiths Gnat Until I Couldn't Seet Anymore!
All In All, A Great Day! 10 Browns And 30+ Bows! 10 In Or Above The Slot! It'll Be Hard To Go Back To Work Tomorrow! Oh Well, There's Always Next Week! Lol! Hagd!

Lol! I got caught years ago down stream from the ramp wading before I realized the water was comng up. Nothing scary but it sucked getting wet above my waders. The water was so cold that I ended up with an inney instead of an outey! I learned to have a landmark on the bank to watch as you wade. I never fly fished down there but it sure sounds fun! We always threw small 1/8oz spinners.

I put a tent up on one of the "islands" my first trip down. Never have packed up so fast as that day when they turned the water back on on my island became a submarine in a few minutes!

For all you guy's on the river fishing the shoals and wading I hope you understand that when a boat comes thru that it cannot just idle past or move away from you. There is only a very narrow "section" that a boat can get past. I always slow down when passing fisherman, but please understand that in certain areas it cannot be done. I will do my best to quickly get out of you're fishing water. I have had no problems with anyone just felt that it need'ed to be explained.

Absolutely true. Tried to wing it in to my launch area for pickup and fisherman getting in the way. Try to keep the motor slow and be respectful, but he was just walking in my path. After I was heading in the direction I had to pick up some momentum (current) and still was walking in my direction. By that time I had to gun it or I was going into others' fishing area. I would also recomend you where a bright cap too. Some people are in a hurry on that small river and don't see the waders.

Excellent info being shared here when it comes to River Boaters verses River Waders. I'll tell ya'll what though...I've been standing in waist high water when a boat came through and it didn't make any difference at all as far as catching is concerned...for right when that boat past me I was reeling in just after he passed and I hooked into one. I have read in magazine articles that in the major rivers like the Ohio and Mississippi that a good place to try is behind the path of a barge because they tend to stir up all kinds of stuff and the fish know it and become a little more aggressive. I guess this same train of thought holds true for any river big or small.

A boat running through inches of water will get the fish going all right! Stirs up all those tasty things hiding on the bottom

Good to know I'm not crazy! I've told my buddies that same thing for years. I always catch fish after a boat motors thru...they said I was nuts. That may be true, but at least I got this one right!

Hope to see some of you down there this week...going Sunday after church and Thursday as well!

I've Never Thought Twice About A Boater Passing Me Up By The Wc Dam. I Know That There Is Only One Small Channel That They Can Go Up To Get Below The Dam...so, I Understand. And It's True, It Doesn't Effect The Fishing At All. I Guess Some People Have Had A Problem With It? Some Fisherman Need To Just Relax! Lol! Fishing Supposed To Be Relaxing And Fun! Right?
Well, I'm Heading Back Up To Wc Dam This Wednesday. I'm Stoked! I Made Sure To Tie Up A Bunch More Of Those Bh Red Pheasant Tails! I Ran Out Last Trip! They Tore 'em To Pieces!
Something Else That I Found Interesting During My Last Trip To Wc Dam...i Was Catching All Rainbows Until I Reached The Spillway Below The Dam, Then All Of A Sudden Somebody Switched On The Brown Switch Or Something! It's Like The Browns Were All Hanging Out Right Below The Water Release. I Spotted One Brown That Had To Go 10+ Lbs! I Tried For Him, But He Spooked And Took Off! I'm Gonna Get 'em This Next Trip! Lol! Hagd!
