Anyone know the reason why the Elite Series is eliminating the Co-Anglers in the 2009 season?
They can say what they want to, but the pros were b*tching about them.
I think it *****. Who wants to pay money to just sit and watch someone fish? All an observer can do is sit there and they want us to pay to do it, they should pay us to sit there and twiddle our thumbs. Assenine. Good thing is they are comeing back to KY Lake for the next 2 years.
Less co-anglers in the boat means more "Would have been Co-Anglers" to chase them around and GPS mark their spots. Just waiting until the actual fist fight breaks out on the water during a tourney.
I dont know of anyone who pays so they can sit and just watch someone fish. Co- anglers on the other hand actually fish with the pros (or behind the pros), and compete against all the other co-anglers for money.
I think it would be awesome to fish with Kevin Van Dam or Paul Elias or any of the other pros. I wouldn't pay to sit and WATCH them fish but I would pay to enter the tourney as a co-angler and try to compete against the others and learn a few things from the pros while I'm fishing too.
You must have misunderstood. They have cancelled the coangler position for the Elite Series
No I understand. They are having no more co-anglers. I was making sure that you knew what a co- angler was.I was under the impression that you thought a co-angler was some one who just pays money to sit and watch some one fish all day. Reguardless it ***** that they are doing away with it

I would pay to be an observer. I thought the whole point of being a co-angler on the elite series was to fish with the best and learn. In my opinion if I won a co-angler title on the elite series I wouldn't feel as if I accomplished much catching somebody else's fish that they found. Don't get me wrong it would be great to win 25 grand, but I would get more out of the eperience of watching KVD work his majic than trying to catch fish he found. He's fishing for his livelyhood, I'm not. So I think it's a good thing getting rid of the co-angler. If the price in not rediculous I would pay to watch them fish. I think getting rid of the co-anglers is great for the sport. It puts all of the pros on a level playing field.
You all act as if it's ridiculous to pay to watch someone fish, you all pay to gas your boats up and drive to a lake and run around and watch people fish from 100 yards away. Whats the difference in paying to ride shotgun, I wouldn't mind doing this. As far as gps coordinates I think its a lot easier to jot them down while not fishing than to do it while fishing.
If you can catch fish behind KVD you need to feel like you've accomplished something.I would pay to be an observer. some of these guys are like vacuum cleaners. They don't leave much behind them.
the problem i would have with it is that its probably some 200 dollars or so to sit there and watch them. I think right now entry fee for a co angler is 750 bucks, pretty rediculous if you ask me. but i didnt really care to follow them around when they were on ky lake anyway, id just rather be fishin. You all act as if it's ridiculous to pay to watch someone fish, you all pay to gas your boats up and drive to a lake and run around and watch people fish from 100 yards away. I think one of the main reasons for a Co-Angler in the major circuits is to stop the possibility of cheating... I don"t mean the blatent "Basket of Bass" under a dock... but there is a host of things a person could do to give them an advantage that would be considered cheating. There are people who fight long and hard to "make the cut", and when they get there they will do almost ANYTHING to stay there. With the coverage that BASS draws on the Elite trail, The camera and the following spectators keep the pros honest...
There is also the possibility that an when they come back to KY lake that, let's say Dave Stewart fished as a Co-Angler. He takes his pro to his spots the first day and they weigh in heavy sacks. On day 2 Dave draws a different pro. He wants to go to the same spot that Dave fished the day before, but pro #1 is there first... Who's fish are they? The Co-angler can have a supprising negative influence on the Pro. I asked all the pros I fished with if they had a bad Co angler experiance and they all said yes!!!
