I liked Romney's speech as well, he did a nice job. Jimbo you sound as juiced up as I am. This young woman may bring the entire country together before it's over.

Day 2 RNC
Rudy was brilliant, he lit the crowd up and further attested to McCain's record and character. I loved his analogy of making a voting decision based on the candidates' resumes. I laughed out loud when after 'reading' McCain's resume, he looked at BO's imaginary resume in his hand and said "Community organizer....what?"
Then Sara Palin stepped to the podium. Woah son did she wear it out! Even the talking heads at CNN didn't immediately say anything negative, except CNN's Dem press agent, David Gurgen of course. Wolfie boy said a star was born. Not a word was said on CNN or Fox about Rudy's speech which was brilliant, they were too busy discussing Palin's main course to talk about Rudy's salad. Best tag line (paraphrased): Some politicians use change to promote their careers, and some use their careers to promote change.
I'm a competitive person by nature, and if an opponent steps up with that look in her eyes and her jaw set like that, I'm saying to myself: Ah crap, this one's gonna be tough. Folks, the NY Times, CNN, Washington Post, liberal bloggers, and the rest of the low life muckrakers can fire away, this gal is for real. Win or Lose, Sara Palin is going to kick your ass and make you like it.
I've watch most of both conventions, and there is no comparison. The Clintons went through the motions and did what they had to do for their party, Biden gave an adequate speech and came off pretty well, BO made a good speech and promised to fix virtually every problem afflicting mankind, but the DNC just wasn't very dynamic. The RNC speakers have outdone themselves, and their is true enthusiasm.
Are the Dems worried? Well BO's going to be on Bill O'Reilly's show tonight, that tell you anything?

If she kicked my but I would like. Just a joke. I think she will make an excellent VP. Who knows what will happen in 4 or 8 years. She maybe in charge.
I was so fired up I couldn't sleep! She is a Pitbull----with lipstick of course.
I haven't been this excited about an election year since Ronald Reagan was elected into office..... This Woman has got the American people fired up and ready for the correct change to be elected into office. I do believe that with McCain and Palin this Country will be turned around, and it's killin the Democrats......
Moderator: Thanks for deleting just my question instead of the whole thread. This is not my website, and obviously you owe me no explanation of how you choose to run it.
Day 3 of the RNC
I only watched McCain's speech, so no commentary on any other speakers. To sum it up in a sentence, his speech was sincere and inspiring. It says a lot about a guy's constitution when he starts by thanking the sitting president for his service even when he knows the Dems are going to make a TV commercial out of it.
I've come from being a supporter only because we had nobody else, to really liking this guy. He may just have the determination and strength of character to be a darned good president. I loved the line and the look on his face when he said he just couldn't wait to turn Sara Palin loose on Washington. Neither can I.
He dared Americans who were not pleased with the state of the country to get off their butts and do something about it instead of whining. (My interpretation)
I give his acceptance speech and A+ for content and accuracy, and a B+ on the delivery.
I also watched part one of the O'Reilly interview with BO, and the guy does impress me. He wasn't able to sull up and not talk about points he didn't like as he's been prone to do, but he wasn't pushed around either. The rest of the interview will be very interesting. I still stand by my assertion that he isn't near the man or decision maker McCain is, but BO has a truckload of potential. It's a shame a guy with his talent is wasted on the Democratic party.
Jim,
In the BO interview I saw a man who is never wrong and when he is nailed dead to rights on being wrong he tries to squim his way out. Bill pushed him into a corner on the "troop surge" and BO says finally sure the surged worked but not because of the surge alone.
I'm not impressed by a slick politician who has done nothing more than talk and align himself with hate filled cultures and terrorists. But then again I'm just a tax paying average guy looking out for myself and my family. He isn't speaking to me he is speaking to the millions of Libs who really believe that this man cares. Lets see....he cared about his church but left, he cared about J.W. but distanced himself, he cared about his slum lord friend and crooked business deals, he cared about Hillary and now he cares about me? I don't need someone like him caring for me look what happens when he does care. I think he is an opportunist at best and a pawn of the Dems. JMHO
I think McCain is a great American, and I will never say otherwise on a personal level. But on a political level, I thought the speech was horrible. Most republicans, including McCain will defend Bush in saying that his administration was great - and is statistically proven to be an effective administration contrary to public opinion. However, McCain stood up there and talked about how much change we needed in terms of administration, and the crowd excitedly applauded. I don't understand, if republicans are so eager to defend the Bush administration, why are they so eager to make changes to the system.
Other than that, it seemed like the same old speech I have heard for the past 12 years. It doesn't seem like there are any new ideas. "Hold teachers and schools accountable" "give parents of students options" - Sounds just like the failing No Child Left Behind plan, Cut taxes for everyone and hope that boosts the economy - nothing new.
The definition of insanity is to keep doing the same things over and over again and expect different results. Seems like the republican agenda is and has been doing this exactly.
Bout time you showed up Col. Dead wrong as usual, but it's good to hear from you. BTW, Mac didn't say the Bush administration was great, he simply accorded a man who's been president for the last 8 years the proper amount of respect. Come on now, I just know you teach them kids to listen to what you say instead of what they want to hear. McCain would've done the same for a sitting Dem president, that's one big difference between him and Obama. Also one of the reasons people within both parties have such high regard for him.
Not gonna address the same tired 'more of the same...' Dem mantra, just don't have the energy or finger power.
What did you think of your guy's performance in part 1 of the BO/BO interview? (Just realized Obama and Bill O'Reilly have the same initials) You okay with him, or would you feel better if he showed the fortitude to stick by people like his pastor when the going gets rough?
You have to admit he does have a tendency to throw folks under the bus if they become a political liability. Would you agree a president who goes whichever way the political wind blows may not be the best choice?
BTW, I ain't the sharpest nail in the barrel, but I'll go out on a limb and say DJD doesn't care much for Mr. Obama.
Col, I'm sorry but your taken by the Dem speeches hook, line and sinker.
Not all Republicans defend Bush. Some Democrats have as well they just flip as necessary. As an Independant I just get tired of the Media and Libs jumping on these guys like a bunch of hounds and blaming them for everything when it's not true. The world and the USA were not perfect before Bush and it won't be after Bush.
The truth is that Dems promise the world on topics like Healthcare and Education and never deliver. If they did then why is it still in the dumps? Were either of these topics ever run properly? For everyone? The answer is no and now that the Libs have put this out there as a topic to use againt the Bush Adminstation people feel that they deserve Government provided Healthcare, Daycare, Public Education (at any cost without responsibility) and now talk of free College.
The Reps have lost alot of their conservative values because of the greedy way of politics. This ticket should get things back on track especially with the Iraq war coming to an end in the near future. McCain does lean to the left at times which is why I didn't really care for him.
Either party will do anything to get the power and Barry is an example of that. Look at how many other qualified candidates that the Dems had and they picked Barry. Now they picked Biden who made fun of Barry and his experience..... that says it all.

QUOTE]
Actually under the Clinton administration, Bill started a program to forgive student loans of qualified teachers that taught in high demand areas (math, science, special ed) - all of the programs that G.W. prioritized for NCLB. However, due to excess spending and budget restraints - the republican administration did away with these programs. Free college is a possibility, and once was a reality for some.
