I believe you're gonna find the beautiful Cumberland running high and strong right now, bank fishing (as far as I know) is limited when the river is up. There are some places but I don't know of many...I've never put anything other than a motorized boat with trolling motor in the river, either that or waders when the river is down. There's a lot of good guys on this board and someone else here might be able to give you some advice on doing the river with a canoe.

When you go in the parking lot over by the rest rooms there's steps that go down to the river. A friend of mine used to fish just there just to the right of the steps, he always caught trout on the jar baits. Don (shinerman)

With the water up like it is curently I would not try it. At stable water levels, a canoe from Corcus Creek to Burkesville is a good trip with a few bars and islands to get out and wade.

from the steps to the dam are good from the bank. get below the eddys and throw up stream about 45 degrees. let the current bring the bait back around to you. i like to use 1/8 jig head with white curly tails or sassy shad tipped with a minnow.
if your not familiar with how swift the current can be, i would go down to about the (?halcombs ferry?) or the rock house and try the canoe.

We got a ton of rain today in an already high lake. The river is going to be really rolling for some time. I'd give it a while to calm down if I were you.

Don't want to go near the river right now unless you've got a decent size boat. It's rolling at 14,000 CFS. No wading until they get the lake level back to 680. Bank fishing is an option, but limited to a few public fishing spots that won't be all that productive.

A canoe is dangerous down there this time of year. Best to wait until things calm down unless you've got a good size boat. Sorry!

When they aren't releasing water from the dam, a canoe is great, but you've still got some boulders and trees that sit right below the surface. In still water sections you can't really see them until it's too late. Especially by yourself sitting in the back. I know from an experience unfortunately. Luckily it was in the summer.

The best advice I can give you for fishing the CR right now is....don't waist your time! Save your gas and time.....it'll take a good couple weeks of no, to little rain before the river levels go down. Canoe right now = suicide. BE SAFE!
