    Hybrid at Barren River...

Having lived in Bowling Green for a few years now, I have heard that there are some big hybrids caught in Barren River Lake. I was able to catch a couple hybrids last year at the tail waters, but I was curious if anyone on here knew the best time of year and the best method for catching hybrids on the main lake? This is a fishery that I would like to take advantage of, being that I live so close, but I just don't know where to start. Any info or tips would be appreciated. Thanks guys.

I would say the hogback between Bailey's Point and the dam, and also in front of the campgrounds (Bailey's), starting with the first point in camping section "A" and working down past the other camping areas at Bailey's.

I know that when I usually get out early in the summer, that area is usually packed with pontoons and others trolling. I can't give you the details on what lures they are using, but I will say those two areas get hit a lot.

One other place I see a lot of folks trolling is the Dam side of the Island straight across from Bailey's.

Thankyou sir. I will have to give it a try. I wonder if the hybrids act similar to their realitives, the striper, and move toward the inlets in winter after the shad? Is anybody catching hybrids on Barren right now? I've heard that the hybrids do a mock spawn in the spring time, and head up tributaries to lakes.

They do head up the river. In the early spring go up river past Fountian Run, yoy can get there by turning right at the state park and following that road till you get there. I gave give you better directions if you need, but anyway the place is called Holland bridge, it is a little tricky to find but is heaily fished in the early spring, late MArch. April, May. Man I ahve slayed the big hybrids there. It is tricky fishing as the bank is steep in places, but take a long handled net to assist in landing. This is a good place to fish and also you can put in a small jon boat and float there. I used to fish there alot and would slay them on a floating Rap, 7/9. Lost a lot a Raps to fish there also. PM me if you need more info.

Dizzle is right on the mark. If you think trolling is fun try fishing under lights at night for them.

Catching them under the lights always sounded like fun to me. I watched a kentucky afield one time where they were doing that at some other lake. Is the summer time the best time for that type of fishing? Do you fish under the lights in the same area that you troll? Thanks.

I like wind blown bluffs and pockets early April. All your vertical striper fishing techniques will work.
