My buddy Mike wrote a song for my buddy Cliff and I about our LOVE for Dale Hollow and Floating the fly. This is the second version and my favorite. Enjoy for it is to be sung in the tune of "Folsom Prisom Blues"
Brownfish Blues
(sung to the tune of Folsom Prison Blues)
I hear that Triton a comin’
It’s going around Dale Bend
Cliff’s three fish up on Woody and grinning end to end
He’s kicking Woodys’ butt today, but he’s just hanging on
Yes, Cliff’s kicking butt today but it may not be for long.
When I was just a baby my mama told me. Son
Don’t ever try those brownfish, they’re not all that much fun.
But I bought a pole from Headrick just to cast the fly
When I feel that leader break, I hang my head and cry.
I bet there’s brownfish feeding up in Sulphur Creek
They’re probably gorging on shad and I’ll just catch a dink.
Well, I know I had it coming, this fever won’t set me free
but those brownfish keep a movin’ and that’s what tortures me.
If Woody catches two more, Cliff would be in a fix
They move that boat to Irons Creek before that final clock ticks.
Well that bobber stands up from just where Woody cast
Then that bobber sinks and produces a ‘hoss cat’
If you’ve been to Dale Hollow you’ve probably heard the tale
Yes Cliff held on by one fish and did finally prevail.
Well that one fish was a victory but Cliff spoke not a word
Cause that last brownfish Woody landed was the 12 lb record.

If I ever catch a 12 pound Brownfish then I will happily sell the movie rights. I see John Goodman playing the part of me and Tom Cruise in his prime playing the part of Cliff.
