    Unhappy Cat Killer

My wife is an extreme animal lover, and she cannot see a stray, and not pick it up and try to find a home, if she dosent it ends up living with us, which is why I have a bunch. This Thursday, her baby, started acting funny, and looked terrible, so we rushed him to the Vet. Told us it was a calcium deficiency and put him on a IV drip. Did alright until late Friday, she called us and told us he had died from his kidneys shutting down. The very next morning we had another one start acting the same, 6 hours later she was dead, one of her best cat friends was grieving beside her, and about 8 hours later he was dead. Came home from work today, and my favorite cat (Special) someone dumped him, and he was not quite right in the head, a little retarded so we named him Special Ed was showing the same symptoms, right now he is laying on the couch dying. We gave him half a valium so he would be comfortable, because the vet said there is nothing else we can do, other than bring him in, and she would put him to sleep. The vet thinks they have all been poisoned, probaly by anti-freeze, which shuts down their kidneys, and then their heart, which all have shown the same symptoms. We let them out at night for a couple of hours, and I am sure someone in our subdivision hated them, and set out anti-freeze to kill them. I dont know how anyone could do this to a poor animal, and I hope I find out who did it, because they have a world of trouble coming to them. I know alot of you will say the only good cat is a dead cat, but if you had to sit and watch them die, I think you might change your attitude. My wife and daughter are traumatized, and have been crying since Friday, and its killing me watching them die one at a time, its really sad and I hope the #@$&head who done this dies a very slow painful death, because I believe karma will catch up with you eventually.

Our cat is 20 years old and just now starting to feel her age.

That being said, it is YOUR fault for allowing your animals to roam and deposit their mess on someone else's property.

Would you like to dig in your garden or flower bed where your neighbor's elephant takes his dump? Cat urine and feces has a very unpleasant aroma that is difficult to get rid of.

I do not condone the poisoning but you should not have allowed your cats to roam the neighborhood.

I agree, have told my wife time and time again, people do not like cats in their yard or in their gardens, mulch, etc. and have told my neighboors on more than one occasion, if they make a mess, let me know and we would clean it up, or put moth balls out so they wouldnt get back in it, but instead of telling me to keep them in, the chickenshits just killed them, and its a slow painful death, so like I said they will get theirs, either bye me if I can prove it, or bye karma.

You don't even know for sure that your cats were poisoned with antifreeze. That's pure conjecture on your vet's part and yours. And even if that's what they got into, who's to say it was on purpose? When my van's radiator went out, it leaked enough antifreeze to probably kill several dogs had they gotten into it. Animals are attracted to the very ingredient that kills them, and all it would take would be a small puddle somewhere to kill all those cats. Pardon me for saying so, but I think you're getting awfully worked up over something that might not have even happened. Let go of it, and keep your cats inside from now on. It's better for them, and for the local wildlife.

Man sorry to hear that. It's bad regardless of what happened or who did it. Nothing deserves to suffer like that. I'm not a cat fan but I am an animal lover.
We had suspected a man doing the same to my old Black Lab but could never prove it. We just figured since he hated everything he must be eat up with something evil and he lives in his own hell. Ben stayed in our yard but anything could be thrown over a fence. That being said, don't let your anger make a bad situation worse (like I wanted to do more than you know!) Because then you have pets that are gone and potential lawsuits, fines or jail time.
I'm feeling your pain and it really brings back some aweful memories. Keep your head up!

Does your wife have a hearing problem or did you not make her understand what you were saying? If you are a responsible pet owner you won't have to be told to keep your cats in; you know that's the right thing to do. If you can't keep them ALL inside the house, you have too many cats. Now they are dying, family members are sad, and guess who is to blame.

Why do you think it's your neighbor's duty to monitor YOUR cats and let you know when they are damaging someone else's property? Why should they have to be placed in the embarrassing position of telling you to keep YOUR cats off their property? I don't like walking out on my deck and smelling cat pee that has been sprayed on my back door and patio furniture and I don't like having to scub it off. I detest cats that lie under my birdfeeder waiting to catch beautiful birds, and I hate the stinking cats that scratch the paint on my cars and leave muddy footprints all over them. Which begs the questions: How many times have you washed cat tracks off your neighbors cars and how many times have you agreed to buff and wax them because your cats scratched the paint?

I won't poison a cat but I will knock the hell out of them with a broom, if they damage my property, and never feel guilty.

As an added note, don't automatically assume that your next door neighbors poisoned your cats. My neighbor lets her two cats out in the afternoon when she comes home from work. I have seen them prowling around houses a mile away. Although it is sad your cats are dying, it would also be sad if you have wrongly accused one of your neighbors.

Some time ago I read that companies making anti-freeze were adding an ingredient to prevent animals from drinking it. I don't know whether they ever got around to doing it or just said they were.

I don't think dogs or cats were designed to be penned up in the house all the time. Animals should be allowed to go outside just like humans.

My daughter's cat doesn't even like coming in the house, but he has plenty of room to roam. If we didn't have room for him to spend time outside, we wouldn't have him. He does walk on our vehicles, and he does get hair on my boat, but that's not really a big deal. My daughter loves that hairbag and I love her, so it is what it is. He doesn't spray because he's fixed, and like most cats he's pretty fastidious with his potty habits.

Too many people in close quarters sub divisions have way too many annoying pets. If I had neighbors all around me I'd much rather they had cats than a yard full of barking dogs. Now if they weren't responsible enough to have them fixed, and my stuff was getting sprayed I'd certainly talk to them about it. If that didn't do any good stronger measures would have to be taken, nothing is more foul than cat spray. Don't see myself, or anyone else for that matter poisoning an animal, but I would catch it and take it to the shelter after fair warning to the owner.

If someone did something to an animal I owned without talking to me first, we'd have trouble.

Were all your cats fixed and up on their shots Wishin?

Hate to here about something like this happening Wishin no matter how it happened. If your cats were poisoned then thats just wrong, the person could have had a Animal Control officer to come out and take care of things the right way.

My 2 indoor/outdoor cats have a little room to roam but don't stray to far because they have been fixed but there are some old unneutered toms that come around from time to time and jump my cats for no other reason than marking territories.

Like Devils Horse said I hate to see a animal caged/pinned up all the time and one of my cats would chew a hole through a concrete wall if he couldn't get out evry now and then.

To everyone: please spay and neuter your animals if you let them roam freely.

Yea they were all fixed, and were pretty good pets. I hope I am wrong about someone poisoing them, but I am sure people got tired of them, which is sad because one of them played with the neighboorhood kids, and pretty much loved everyone, but just takes one person to get rid of all of them.

My cats were the same way, wanted out at night for a couple hours, came back in and sleep all day like most cats. I know its our fault for letting them out, but its also cruel to keep them pinned up in a house all day. All the money spent on spay, neutering, shots, etc. all wasted, and the saddest part the special cat lasted the longest, he was having seisures this morning around 3:00am, and still didnt die, so we had to take him and put him to sleep this morning cause he didnt want to go.
