This has to be a hoax for I was at work all day long and no where near Cumberland. Besides, I have it on good authority that the first 12 pound Smallie that will EVER be landed will be landed by none other than..............ME. The fishing gods told me this based on all that I have been thru and my LOVE for the Brownfish. I plan on catching this big girl the first weekend of March 2009 somewhere in Mid Lake at Dale Hollow on a Duck Feather Red and Chartreuse FNF jig, 10 foot All Pro rod, with Fireline mainline, Spro 3 way swivel and XPS leader. Steve Headrick, Bass Pro, All Pro, Spro, Berkley, Tracker and Mercury are all lined up with contract in hand for my endorsement deals. I guess this 12 pound fish is worth a few 7 figures to the left of the decimal point. The best part is when I give her that big old kiss, tongue and all and set her free to swim back to the depths of the Holler again (after getting her officially weighed and measured of course).

I think that same fish was caught about this time last year...wait no, couldn't have been the same fish, that guy took it home and ate it and skipped on the official weigh station.

Probably a hoax but you never know. If I was making a list of lakes to possibly catch a world record smallie cumberland would have to be on it. There has been a lot of smallies 7-8lb+ range caught by the striper guides and a few by bass fisherman. If one of those 8+lber's was full of shad and eggs then you've got a double digit fish. Cumberland doesn't have any smallies in the top 25 though.

Shoot elwood if i caught that fish there aint no way i would put it back because as soon as u did some keyboard jockey would be doubting u and your accomplishments... i would get off the water on dry land and contact both tennessee and ky fish and wildlife have them both bring official scales and weigh it and measure it then i would have it x rayed so people wouldnt think i put lower unit parts in it like they said mr hayes done then i would give it to ky fish and wildlife to put on display at the salato wildlife center so all the kids to dream over... and adults alike.... cause u know all the controversy that would come with catching that fish would be so aggrivating too.....

Woody, I really hate to bust your bubble but.....The next world record will be caught by an 11 year old girl with a Zeco 202 with 10 lb shakespere line that is 18 years old and comes off like a slinky. This reel will be on a 1969 true temper solid glass rod 5'6" long with a gold crappie hook with a dead minnow on it floating under a red/white plastic cork the size of a grapefruit. We all know this is probably more accurate than we care to admit.

If this little gal does not catch it you are my next pick......
