Try chewing tobacco sometime (if you never had)
    and see how you feel.

Fish aren't as stupid as you think, a bass may hit just about anything, but they also
spit it out if they don't like it. every fisherman has experienced that.
    they definetly don't swallow everything.
That prooves they taste and smell, and once they hit it and spit it out
it's really hard to get them to hit the same one again.
That's why bait selection is important, prooving they do choose.
I'll give you that, a concentration of any substance would or could be too much for a Bass. I'm a believer in scents and dyes but have found about a 50-50 proven rate of when it helps or hurts. I only started the scents because I wanted my baits to be slippery when flippin' grass.

The dyes came in because a well placed color looks great on soft plastics (to me).
I don't see smoking as a problem to catching fish since it really is such a low dose of scent transfered to the bait if any. Especially a soft plastic bait that already smells of plastic or scent and or bottom muck and or weeds.

    Hey Tim,

I don't know if you remember a few years ago when BassMasters TV show had the "Bass Rats" on doing segments? It was some of the young talent, and even included KVD at least once. Mostly it was Reese, Stone, Swindle, and one other, but anyway, they often referred to Kevin Wirth as Chimmney and some other smoking related names. Chimmney just sticks out in my memory.

Haha, thanks guys for the super response to my question.. I agree smoking is a nasty habit. If I had to take back ever giving in to it... I would. But now the road is different... smoking is the only thing I've never been able to knock. I would definately agree that butts should be disposed of properly. I would say personally I've caught my fair share of bass and crappie with a cigarette in my mouth.. without using scents. I would have to say the most entertaining response I received was from Smuckey41 haha... yeah thats my daily combo man... nothing like a nice black cup of folgers to go with my marlboro.... thanks again for the responses!!!

I remember the show but I must have missed that. I have never heard any of the anglers using these nicknames that is why I was questioning it. Sounds like I don't know as much as I think I do lol!

Unless you find the fish that smoke. Then you can't keep them off of your line...
